Your Benjamin is about the same age as mine, about 1847 in TN. Does your 1880 census show where his parents were born? My Edward was born in TN and his wife Mariah was born in AL. Do you get the impression that your Benjamin is the son of Clay and Susan Roberts? Where was your Benjamin born? Perhaps we can both get some help from this.

Roberts was listed in the Union, Jackson, Ark. census of 1880 as residing at the home of Clay and Susan E. Roberts working on his farm. One of the things I have learned in searching for Roberts family is be sure you indicate white/native american/black. There are several strings that get mixed together because of the frequency of freed slaves being given the last name of the white family they lived or worked for. Benjamin was listed as a 23 year old white male. His name has cropped up several times in my search for my family, Edward is I believe my great-great-uncle or grandfather. My fathers name is Edward I was told as a child he was named after both my grandfather and grandmother's father, but this may not be right. I have found a lot of information I was given was wrong. This makes it much harder. I would appreciate your sending me any information you have on Edward. I also have very little on him. So I can't connect the dots so to speak.

He was captured at the Battle of Pea Ridge (AR) 8 July 1862. Sent to the Federal prison at Alton IL. He was exchanged at Fort Pillow TN 17 May 1862. He was capture again at Fort Hudson LA 9 July 1863 and paroled 13 July 1863. I find no record that he died in the service although the apparent date of his death is 1863. I find no mention of a date or cemetery for his wife Sarah M Stallings. If, in fact, Daniel died in 1863 and given her young age, it's very probable that she remarried. Lead Hill AR became a part of Boone Co AR when that county was created in 1869. You might find some information at http://www.rootsweb.com/~arboone which is the Boone Co AR web page.

    3. Don Could be just a coincidence, but........... My ggrandmother was a Tiller from Missouri, married an Ozburn and ended up in northern Arkansas (Randolph, Fulton, Izard counties that I know of), but my Eliza Ann Tiller (b1855) had a sister named Nancy Jane Tiller (b1843) and her husband was a Sherod W. Rowland (b1845) The couple married .March 03, 1864 in Macon Co., Missouri. Sherod was the son of a Mary Rousch and William H. Rowland. So, this William Rowland would be a contemporary of the one that you show having been married to Cynthia Jane Hall (b1828). Would be interesting to see if my William Rowland was widowed and a second marriage was to your Cynthia Hall, wouldn't it?
