HI All, I am not certain that this went out the first time, so I am sending it again. Sorry if it is a duplication for you. I am trying to locate the grave of my great-grandmother. She is buried in or near Yellville. The name on her gravestone would be LIZZIE (ELIZABETH) DUVALL b. 1857 or it may be listed as LIZZIE (ELIZABETH) HARDIN. I do not know when she died, but I suspect it was around 1920. I would be grateful for any tips you might have to locate her grave. Thanks Don Jones WA State

Yes the Hurst Teagarden Cem., is sometimes called the Old Hurst Cem. and the other Hurst cemetery is currently in use and I have been there several time. I don't think there is a stone for either of these folk. I expect the one on this side of Crooked Creek is the Jack Hurst Cem. Don, according to "History of Marion Co" by Earl Berry, there are apparently two Hurst Cemeteries. On pg 33 it says the Hurst Cem is just off Rt 62 between Yellville & Flippin in T19N, R15W, Sec 30. Started aft 1900. Includes Burch, Hall, Holland, Wood and others. On pg 35 it says the Old Hurst Cemetery is about 6 miles east of Yellville on the Lester Jefferson farm, that it's the original Hurst Cemetery that was on a farm owned by John Hurst. This *might* be the cause of the confusion over the cemetery name. Jack is a well-known nickname for John. And there was a John D "Jacky" Hurst around here 1847-1939. Doesn't help much with when Sarah Frances (Foster) Wood died nor when/where she was actually buried, but it's a thought. Mysty [email protected]
I'm as confused as you are, Don. Although I doubt it, there could be a Jack Hurst Cemetery somewhere in AR - and I've never heard of any cemetery in MCAR called a Jack anything. You'd know better than I who's buried in the MCAR Hurst Cemetery. There is a Marion AR down in Crittenden Co - just north of West Memphis. But a Jack Hurst or Hurst Cemetery isn't shown there. As for "Squirrel Bill" Wood. First off, the "Squirrel Bill" Wood of MCAR was William J - not William E. Second, he was born in GA in 1811 and died in MCAR between 1850 and 1860. And his wife's name was Pamela - not Sarah Frances. Several entries in Rootsweb's World Connect Project list this couple, but none says much more than what you were given. And all say Sarah Frances is buried in the Jack Hurst Cemetery in Marion AR, but none gives a death date. And they all say William E died bef 1900, but none gives a death place. And they all say they married in Calico Rock, Izard Co AR 29 Dec 1897. They do list her parents, though. Where they all came up with this "Squirrel Bill" nickname, I haven't a clue. I've never heard of it being used for anyone but William J Wood of MCAR. I'd suggest whoever is looking for more information on this couple go to WorldConnect and contact those that have posted there. Although their data is rather incomplete, they might know something more definitive. Hope to see you and Your Shadow at Turkey Trot this weekend. Just wanted to make sure, Roger and Judy, that you understand that "Genealogies of Marion Co Families 1811-1900" is still very much available. The Society plans to keep it that way for many years to come. It's the *Supplement* to it that's not yet been printed. Dolores, you will find NO marriage records in Marion Co AR before Aug 1887. That's when the courthouse burned to the ground, taking every shred of records with it. Jesse Duncan Lay's first wife, Susannah Douglas, was born in TN 1808 and died in MCAR 1873 of tuberculosis. Their last child was born in 1854. Jesse married, second, Sarah A (Mullins) Loggains, widow of Major (his name, not his rank) Loggains, was born in AL in 1825. Jesse, aged 70, and Sarah, aged 55, are in Water Creek Township MCAR in 1880. There are no children listed with them, probably because of their ages at marriage (after 1873). Hi Will do my best in transcribing this 1920 census for your Treat family. Pretty tough, though. I am assuming that this is him? He is living next to John Berry Treat, his brother. 1920 Marion Co., Arkansas census, TREAT, Thomas O. head M W 30 married AR AR AR #52/53 Cintha A. wife F W 32 married AR AR AR George O. son M W 7 1/12 single AR AR AR James T. son M W 5 4/12 AR AR AR Lizzie A. daughter F W 3 2/12 AR AR AR So, as you can see - it doesn't match up to the family with Viola and I really think that the wife's name is Cintha in this census. Your Thomas Treat? Who were his parents? Bernie Moore-Knowles Phoenix, Arizona - Papa'aloa, Hawai'i "I have Indian blood in me. Treat? Hi, Thanks for replying, Thomas Osborn Treat, age 31 Viola wife, age 44 Sylvester, son, 17 Iva. dau, age 14 Ina, dau age, 11 Imogene, dau. age 1/2 or 1 all born in ARK approximate ages on Thom and Viola, depending when the Census were taken. They were in Marion Co. all the time. From what I can gather, maybe different TWN ship.
I find a Thomas J. Treat, age 37 and a Thomas O. Treat, age 30 in Cripple Creek Township, Marion County. Neither have the wife and children you describe. Eldon J. Hi I found your Thomas O. Treat in the 1920 census - but, it is real hard to read. Can you give me a short run down on the family, so I can decipher and post for you? Hi, I am interested in knowing if anyone might have access to the 1920 Census records for Marion Co. ARK. I am looking for Viola Treat md. to Thomas O. Treat. There would be four children with them. Sylvester, Iva, Ina and Imogene. (I have found a Thomas O. Treat) in the 1920 Census but it is not the right one.(Wrong wife and children) I found my mother, (Viola Treat) in the 1930 Census. By this time she and Thomas had separated. Viola Treat (was a Hall) before marriage, She was born in Marion Co. so was there until she moved to MO. after the 1930 Census were taken in ARK. Also, I am looking for my grandmother, Matilda Hall in 1920. She also was born in Marion Co.(according to records) md. there and lived in Marion Co. until moving to MO. also after the 1930 Census.(According to records I have in writing that Matilda md. in Nov. 1930 to a Joe Wasmar) but also divorced in Dec. 1930. Crazy huh? In the 1930 Census she is shown having her grandson, Rudolph living with her. Any help would be appreciated.
