    3. Dear Peggy and Rick, Thank you, Rick, for the pictures you sent me of the Houston graves on your family's place, and to you and your family for caring for them all these years. And to Peggy, another thank you for the information on Earlie Houston and his descendants. This should help me locate someone that might know what happened to my great-grandmother's old trunk with family information, papers, and pictures in it. My dad, Bobby Jeane Ledford, was brought up in the Pinnacle area of Madison County, and he always said that you'd never meet any nicer or more helpful folk anywhere on earth. Seems like Dad was right :^) Thanks again, Jeanne ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

    3. Jeanne, Earlie Houston was a s/o Robert Calvin & California (Hall) Houston. He was b. 5 May 1883 Rockhouse, AR, d. 19 Aug 1976, bur. Oakland Cemetery, Springdale, Washington Co, AR, m. 1st Lillie Lee Hawkins, d/o Arch Jackson & Sarah Jane (Scott) Hawkins, b. 17 Aug 1885, d. 28 Nov 1921 (from family Bible) Earlie & Lillie had 7 children. There was one son named Lymon Houston who died in 1971 and buried also at Oakland Cemetery. He attended the Houston reunions at Springdale. He had two daughters, Joanne who m. Guy Miller and Jerri who m. Kirby Mason. I have no idea where these daughters might be, but if you can locate them, they might be able to tell you about the trunk. Also, one of Earlie's granddaughters is Teresa who m. Dale Harris. I believe they live in Bakersfield, CA. Both are interested in family history, so that might be another avenue for you. They may be subscribers to the Madison County Musings. 1. [ARMADISO-L] Re: Lewis family
    2. Cheryl: There were funeral homes at that time period. Most families usually prepared the body for burial themselves and if the body was kept overnight, neighbors and family sat up all night with it. If possible the body was buried the same day since there was no way to perserve it. There was an undertaker in Saint Paul in early 1900's but he only took care of bodies in that area. As far as ordering from the Madison County Genealogical & Historical Society, either a check or money order will be fine. Also you might want to place a "Query" in our quarterly, "The Madison County Musings". There is no charge to do so. In the query you would state the people's names you are looking for and what information you need, along with your name and address. This is a really good way to make contacts and you might find someone who knows all about this family. The Musings goes into 35 states and we have 735 members who receive it. Joy Russell

    1. [ARMADISO-L] Edgmon and Lewis families
    2. I found the William Jasper Edgemon family in the 1900 Madison County census, Goodwill township (which is the Red Star area). Also I found a land patent record for a homestead of 160 acres to William Jasper Edgemon on 16 Sept 1904, for the Northeast Quarter of Section 10, Township 14, Range 24, Madison County, AR. I also found that William Jasper Edgmon and Lucy Ann Edgmon are both buried in Old Bethel Cemetery, located about 1 mile North of Red Star, Arkansas. The tombstone information shows: William Jasper Edgmon, born 27 March 1859, died 17 August 1946 Lucy Ann Edgmon, born 23 May 1857, died 15 April 1918 Our records show that William Jasper married the second time to Mrs. Fannie Bell Mitchell. Both William Jasper and Lucy Ann have tombstones. Also buried in the Old Bethel cemetery are several of their grandchildren, the child of George Alexander Edgmon. If you are interested in this information, the Old Bethel Cemetery was printed in our quarterly magazine back in the Spring 1993 issue. The information on the cemetery is 13 pages long. The Spring 1993 issue of the "Musings" is available for $5.00 from the Madison County Genealogical & Historical Society, P. O. Box 427, Huntsville, AR 72740. There is a full page of family history on the family of Geo. Alexander and Martha M. Edwards Edgmon in that issue. It lists all the children of George Alexander Edgmon, the birthdates and who they married. I did not find any census records, land patents, or cemetery listings for any of the Lewis family that you mentioned. How are the Edgmon family and the Lewis family related? Hope this helps. Joy Russell
