I'm attaching a file from "Madison County Cemeteries, Book #2" published by the Madison County Genealogical & Historical Society. This book contains Brashears Cemetery and happens to have a photo of Eli C. Estep's grave. This is the best I can do at this time. Joy Russell

Wilma, We have searched and searched for records regarding the Madison County Poor Farm. We have published a couple of articles that give the information that we have obtained about it. Yes, there was a cemetery located at the Poor Farm where several of the residents were buried. In fact we have plans of erecting a plaque marking it's location soon....right now the cemetery is merely "sunk-in places" in the middle of a field. As for a list of residents who lived at the Poor Farm....there is none. Nor is there a list of the people who were buried there. We have some obituaries of people who are buried there, and we have talked with some older Hindsville residents who told us some of the people who are buried there. I checked all of the lists for cemeteries around Hindsville, and I find no listing of a burial for your Ntahan Fields. I would say that it is a very likely possibility that Nathan was buried at the Poor Farm Cemetery, if he continued to reside there. Do you feel that he did in fact die at the Poor Farm? Of course, there is also the possibility that family members claimed his body and buried him elsewhere and that this grave is marked only with a fieldstone. Joy Russell

Joy, I understood that this G-grandson had been to where Nathan is buried, which implied, that there was a marker, although not necessarily. He could'nt remember the name of the cemetery at the time ( we had just buried his mother), but said it was at or close to Hindsville. Nathan's second wife, Lucinda M. Fields, died in Little Rock at the State Hospital, in Jan. 1927, and there was a short death notice in the Madison County Record of Jan. 27, 1927. She is buried in an unmarked grave at the Dunaway Cemetery near Asher, AR ( Newton Co. , I think). I have a copy of her Interment card(?) from your library, that a cousin picked up several years ago. I did not know of him at the time, and it is actually through another cousin that he sent copies to, that I got copies on a trip to her home in Springfield, MO. Do you suppose there would be a death notice or obit? I know he was 85 years old at the time of the 1930 census. Just need a death date , so I could find something in a newspaper concerning his death. He is the only one of Ephraim s children, that has been a brick wall after the 1930 census. Ephraim left Washington Co. AR to NW MO (Holt Co ) by 1870. I even have his obit from 1910! Is there any kind of obituary indexes that would cover the time period from 1930 until whenever? Several questions: 1. Where was it located? 2. Where would burials have been for "lodgers" that may have died while there? Was there a "Poor Farm Cemetery"? 3. Did family members ever claim the body? I have a 1930 Madsion Co. Census, dated April 14, 1930, that lists my Nathan Fields as a lodger at the Madison County Poor Farm. I know, for a fact, that some family descendents still in Madison Co. to this day, although one son (Nathan Savada Fields) was in Springfield Mo, and the other son (Burrton E. Fields) was living in White River Twp.,Madison Co. in 1930, before he and his wife went to Lebanon, MO. This son, died at his sons' (Ellsworth Fields) home at Elkins in 1978. Both of Nathan Noble Fields' sons are buried at Liberty Cemetery, north of Springfield, MO. I cannot find Nathan on the Arkansas Death Index, and have been told by G-grandchildren, that he was buried at a cemetery near Hindsville. I have no idea what cemetery. Any help on finding any information on Nathan Noble Fields, born about 1848, KY, and died after April 14, 1930, is appreciated! I do have all the census records from KY, AR, MO, KS, IA, where he lived at various times in his life the last being the 1910, 1920, and 1930 Census in Madison Co. AR Thanks! Wilma

There are several people that requested this obituary. I had forgotten about a mistake in her obituary, so please take note. Her obituary, dated April 28, 1975, says she died April 16,1975, but she is listed as a survivor in her husband, Carl Eli Gibson's obituary dated April 21, 1975. Carl died on the 20th of April, 1975. I believe this was most likely a typo, and that Girtha died on the 26th of April, rather than the 16th. Wilma
