Moses McCol was one such man. Little did Thoms and Mary McCol realize that the son they sired in NC in 1794 would in his maturity become the patriarch of several of their descendants who would carve a life for themselves in the Northwest Ark Ozark Geographical Region. However, men are often shaped by the historical events thtat happen around them. Moses McCol joined with his peers to adopt a live of mobility as he constantly sought an every better life for himself and his family. He was drafted into military service 1 Jan 1814, during the War of 1812, and he saw action against the Creek Indiams in the Battle of Horseshoe. Moses McCl, was discharged 20 May 1814. Seven months after his discharge he was united in marriage with Mary Ellin "Polly" Freed on 9 Dec 1814, in Green Co, TN. "Polly" was a native of Virginia, having been born during 1796, as a daughter of John and Regina Rife Freed. After thir marriage the couple moved toWashington Co, IN - or so some family researchers believe but the fact has not been documented. Eight children were born to Moses and Mary Ellin: Thomas McCol, (prev statement) No info on second child David McCol b 1824 and married Mary J.; Susanna McCol, born 1826-28 married Jonathan Wesley Allred and died 1892 Sarah J. 3. Cora, There is 1911 Arkansas State Census of Confederate Veterans. I have seen the Arkansas census in book form at my local public library's genealogy collection and it is available from the Family History Centers. The only extant state census for Arkansas is 1865 Washington County, which is available in book form. You didn't ask about Louisiana, but I found this http://nutrias.org/~nopl/inv/1911/1911census.htm that might be of interest to someone. Check your local library for a copy of the Redbook or the Handybook which lists records by state and county. Research guides from the Family History Library (FHL) for AR, MO, and OK might be helpful: http://tinyurl.com/2wbp6x http://tinyurl.com/2tgkct http://tinyurl.com/32u58s http://www.argenweb.net/guide/census.htm Many counties have early tax records which have been microfilmed by the FHL, and could be used as a substitute for the census. The Scott County AR genealogy society has used several resources including their tax records to recreate missing census enumerations, which they have published in book form. The Missouri State Archives has a comprehensive list of microfilmed records available by county. Many of these can be borrowed on interlibrary loan. http://www.sos.mo.gov/archives/resources/county/croll.asp Terri Walker http://rachelcormany-asuvcw.moonfruit.com/ > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "cora miller" <coram@cableone.net> > To: <ArkansasChat@yahoogroups.com>; <ARWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com>; > <ARMADISO-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Tuesday, April 24, 2007 9:31 AM > Subject: [ARMADISO] where can I find > > >> where can I find '"state census " for arkansas,Oklahoma and mo. >> I have access to federal census >> would like to find state census. >> thanks >> cora miller >> blind in oklahoma >> Madison County, AR Genealogy >> http://members.aol.com/madcounty/mcindex.htm

    1. Re: [ARMADISO] ARMADISO Digest, Vol 2, Issue 24
    2. It is my understanding that there is no regular schedule for state census. Generally there was a specific reason for the expenditure of tax money on a state census. THE SOURCE, A Guidebook of American Genealogy copyright 1997 by Ancestrry Inc. edited by Loretta: Dennis Szucs and Sandra Hargreaves Luebking, indicates there are state census for Arkansas: 1823, 1829, 1865, 1911 Okalahoma: 1890, 1907 Missouri: 1797, 1803, 1817, 1819, 1840, 1844, 1852, 1856, 1860, 1864, 1876, 1880 I would think these would be available from State Archives, and possibly some of the University Libraries. They may have been filmed by LDS and for a nominal fee available through a local Family History Center. It is my understanding that there is no regular schedule for state census. Generally there was a specific reason for a state census. I have seen some school census which have been helpful. Tax roles are also helpful. I found my ancestor Hiram Kelly listed in a Burke county NC 1815 Tax list (He paid one pole). Grandpa Hiram moved from NC to GA in the 1820s and migrated from GA to Madison County AR in the late 1850s. 2. I don't think there is a separate "State Census" for Arkansas. The only census information that I have seen are the Federal Census schedules which were taken in 1840, 1850, 1860, etc. and every 10 years. If you find a State Census, you be sure and let me know.
