Subj: Re: Bohannon or Ledbetter Cemetary Date: 1/22/2000 To: [email protected] Hi Jana, We don't currently have any info on those cemeteries on the web site. I will forward your message to the ARMADISO-L mailing list. If haven't already, you might want to consider joining the list. Peggy In a message dated 1/17/2000 9:37:46 PM Central Standard Time, [email protected] writes: << Hello, I am a descendant of several people from Madison County and I understand that my great grandfather Alfred Payne Ledbetter and his wife, Lydia McCarver Ledbetter are buried in the Bohannon Cemetary in Madison County. I have looked at your website and cannot find any information on this. Could you help me out? Alfred's son, Clarence is my grandfather and my grandmother was a Dorsey from Madison County. Her father was Charles Wesley Dorsey and her mother was Cynthia Stanfill. I would appreciate any resources you could direct me to in researching my family history in Arkansas. Thank you Jana Ledbetter >>
Thought it was time to try again to locate information on three of my great, great grandfather's sisters. Alexander Walker, son of Christopher Walker and Elizabeth Stewart, was born circa 1818 in KY. He married Sary "pollie" Allen on 28 Mar 1837 in Perry Co. KY and died after 1880 in Madison Co. AR. He lived in Breathitt Co KY at the time of 1860 and 1870 census, moving to Madison Co. AR in the early 1870's probably due to the death of Christopher Walker who had moved to Madison Co earlier. Four of his daughters are assumed to have already married prior to the move to AR and remained in KY. Of these, nothing is known of three of them. Children of Alexander and Pollie include the following: Nancy Walker, born 1837. No further information. Elizabeth Walker, born 1838 in Perry Co., married Reuben Patton, died in Madison Co. AR Mary Walker, born 1840. Perry Co. No further information. Martha Walker, born 1842. According to another researcher, she was married first to Elias Adams, and then Meredith Mann. No other information or dates. Cynthia Walker, born 25 May 1844 in KY. Married first Hiram Holbrook and then Isaac Back. James Henry Walker, born July 1846 in Perry Co. KY (my great, great grandfather). Married Martha Ann Cornett in Madison Co. AR circa 1875. (Martha Ann was born in Perry Co. KY also but moved to Madison Co. AR in the early 1850's). William D. Walker born 1849 in Perry Co. Married Clarice Ritchie in 1883 - Madison Co. AR. Benjamin Walker, born 1853 in Perry Co. Moved to Madison Co. with family. No other info. Lewis Walker, born 1859 in Breathitt. Married in Madison Co. AR . Any additional information on Nancy, Mary, and Martha would be great. I have some information on the others (some more than others!). Hello, I'm hoping someone out there can help me positively identify the BENJAMIN SMITH on 1840 Madison Co, AR, Richland Twp, pg 27 (next to Nicholas Counts, Pleasant & James Johnson): BENJAMIN SMITH 30-40 Male 70-80 (Ben's father?) Female 20-30 (believed to be LUCRETIA LOGUE) Female 5-10 2 Males 5-10 2 Males <5 Madison Tax Lists show 1840: B. & Son Smith Benjamin Smith 1841-1844: Benjamin L. Smith Warren Co, TN, 1836 & 1838 Tax Lists show a BENJAMIN L. SMITH in 3rd District. A William Logue and an Eli Logue are in 1st District. (James C. Logue first appears on the 1840 Franklin Co, IL, census; he, wife Anna Boyd and other Warren folks are in Madison abt 1845.) According to Goodspeed's Howard Co, AR, BENJAMIN & LUCRETIA SMITH had two more children after the 1840 census: James F. (b: ca1843) and Benjamin F. (b: ca1845). The elder Benjamin evidently died abt 1845. It appears their children were dispersed among several families by 1850 Madison census, most from Warren: Joseph (b: ca1833 TN) w/Thomas Johnson, Richland Twp Samuel (b: ca1837 TN) w/Robert Johnson, Richland Twp also w/John McCarver, Prairie Twp William (b: ca1839 AR) w/Thomas Johnson, Richland Twp also w/Thomas Johnson in 1860 James (b: ca1843 AR) w/Joseph Bowen Ben (b: ca1845 AR) w/George Hock/Hawk Their only daughter is still an unknown. I thought she was the Millie Smith w/Balus Shumate in 1850 Richland Twp, but Goodspeed's shows this Millie to be a Fulkerson. ?? I now have reason to believe Benjamin Smith's widow, LUCRETIA LOGUE, is my "Missing Mrs. Smith," second wife of William Robinson (b: ca1792 Grainger Co, TN; d: 1863 Madison Co, AR) and mother of my g-grdfather George W. Robinson (b: Apr. 1848 Madison Co, AR). Old William's second wife died Feb. 1849. With a young baby to care for, he married a third time to Mrs. Nancy Carter, who had a houseful of kids of her own -- which would explain why the Smith children were placed in other households. Can anyone shed light on who were the parents of Benjamin L. Smith and Lucretia Logue, did they come to Madison from Warren, where if not Warren? Who were other Warren folks who arrived in Madison abt 1840? (I know a few came before 1830; Martin Johnson and others arrived abt 1832.) And most of the Warren people seemed to settle in the western part of Madison Co, Richland and Prairie, and eastern Washington Co. Thank you for your help, Carolyn Duncan Richardson, TX

I received this from another list today and thought that it might be of interest to you. Marilyn From: EVERTON'S FAMILY HISTORY NEWSLINE Thursday, 13 January 2000 What Was It Worth? You're reading a deed and you'd like to know how much the sale price in 1859 dollars stacks up in current U.S. currency. Or maybe it's a will and you want to know just how valuable your own direct ancestor's piece of the inheritance would be if it were paid in U.S. currency at the end of the twentieth century. You could guess, of course, but there's got to be a simpler way to find out, isn't there? One way to find out is to use the Inflation Calculator posted to the Web by Morgan Friedman. The Inflation Calculator covers values from 1800 to 1998. Just type in the amount you know (either the current value or the "historical" one), and the Calculator gives you both valuations. Very handy, and very quick. But there's more. Mr. Friedman has also posted calculators for Italy and Canada, and links to exchange rates for Britain. Not to mention a link to the addictively fascinating Statistical Abstract of the United States. If you've ever wondered how much an 1859 dollar would be in 1998 terms ($18.40), or any other amount, this handy reference page can be a welcome addition to your list of Bookmarks or Favorites.
