The fundraiser event was held in honor of the LCM’s fifth birthday with approximately 325 people in attendance at the Lonoke Primary. Recognition was given to the three oldest people in attendance. They were presented with a red, white and blue medallion in honor of such. Those recognized included Mrs. White of Lonoke who is approaching a youthful 89 years, Mr. Earnest Best of Des Arc a spunky 91 years, and Mr. Les Hooks of Gould. As Mr. Hooks was the most senior of the trio being 95 years young, he was awarded a lifetime membership in the Lonoke County Museum. The raffle prizes were awarded to Shirley Tomlinson and Gary Seavers. Tomlinson won the handmade quilted wall hanging generously donated by Mrs. Juanita Horn with Seavers winning the turkey/fish fryer. Door prizes were also awarded. Little Miss Amber Schafer assisted in drawing the winning names. Those Lonoke County authors in attendance included Ms. Liza Ashley, Earnest Best and Charles Cunning. All three grew up in Lonoke County and cherish their memories of those times. They willingly autographed all books purchased. Gospel singing was provided by Phillip Cole, Chris Isbell, and the Greater Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church’s Men’s Chorus of Little Rock, Arkansas. Those in attendance warmly received the performers giving each a resounding round of applause. Linda Acrey, spokesperson for the LCM stated, “ If you missed this one, you will want to make plans to be in attendance next year. As Mr. Earnest Best stated, “it was just like a homecoming.” We had a grand time and already have next year’s program in the works.” For additional information relating to the Lonoke County Museum, it goals or the current oral history project, feel free to call Sheryl Miller at 676-2496 or 676-6635.
