Business will be discussed and the unveiling of the 1897 diorama of Lonoke will occur. Members are urged to be in attendance and guests are always welcome. The 1897 diorama of Lonoke for which the LCM received a $4500 grant from Department of Arkansas Heritage will be on display. Sherryl Miller, Executive Director of the LCM, spent endless hours while doing extensive researching to ensure that the details and placement of each building was correct. Steve Miller, her son, assisted Mrs. Miller on the actual construction of the diorama. Mrs. Pat Gregson, the Lonoke Middle School art teacher, gave invaluable creative assistance in this matter. Linda Acrey, spokesperson for the Lonoke County Museum, stated, “ We are so proud of this diorama and the history it teaches. In 1897, the Lonoke County jail was housed north of the then existing courthouse. Joe T. Robinson, who was later governor and then United States Senator, had his law office on the corner of what is now North Center and Second Street southwest of the courthouse. Next-door was the local gunsmith, J. D. Pearce. It was a different world and time, as the diorama will illustrate. You should be able to envision how the center of the town has evolved with the passing of time. So please come and share with all of us the joy of another project successfully completed by the LCM. ” For additional information about the coming meeting, the Lonoke County Museum and its goals, or anything relating to such, please feel free to contact Sheryl Miller, Lonoke County Museum, PO Box 873, Lonoke, Arkansas 72086.
