The Lonoke County Museum has been given a site on which to erect a building. The building site is located at the corner of Hicks and Ash Street in Lonoke directly behind what is now called the Scott Building, one block over from Front Street that is the main street. Now there will be a place to showcase the many exhibits. Those exhibits include: the Civil War Battle of Brownsville diorama; the 1897 diorama of the city of Lonoke; an Ebert’s Field display; a Native American collection and exhibit; a pictorial exhibit of the citizens of this county; some famous and infamous politicians; the beef and dairy industry as well as an agricultural display; a WWII display of the young men who so bravely served our nation; the railroad which helped build this county; a bygone schools and churches display; and numerous other items of interest. Current plans are to erect a 40 X 60 metal building resembling an old fashioned hotel. Tentatively, the time to begin construction is February 1, 2005. While we had a charter membership of 18, we are now an organization with nationwide membership. We have supporters scattered all around. Those of us who have diligently worked since the Lonoke County Museum began in 1998 feel great pride in all of this. The LCM is doing well. We are making a great leap of faith with this building project as we strive to preserve our rich and diverse history within this county. Sherryl Miller, the former president of the LCM, frequently does research for individuals for a donation to the building fund. New members are welcome, and memberships are still only $10 per year.
