I know the name. Jurden is how the folks in this part of the country say Jordan. The family surname of Jordan, and still pronounced many times as Jurden is still around. To be honest, I probably even know the name Tawxley, but I have yet to get a grip on that one. I bet you are dealing with a real Southern way of saying it rather than how it was. Parts of Lonoke County were parts of Prairie and Pulaski. Lonoke County in the central part of Arkansas being only about 20-25 miles east of Little Rock. In regard to this statement, "JURDEN may have been her maiden name and these children possibly were born out of wedlock," you are probably wrong about that. I am just making judgements on what little I knew about that family surname and what I have heard my own relatives say about such situations. There were a lot of folks who came to Arkansas after the Civil War from Alabama. Pettus was a pretty prosperous area of the state at the time they were here. I would suggest that you check that area for burials, etc. There are four Jordans buried at Mulberry just outside of England, Arkansas including a Manley L. Jordan (b. 1887 d.1968). There is also a George D. Jordan (b. 1913-1973). I am wondering if this is possibly the son and grandson of the George Jurden. I would believe that he was and is a connection to that grouping. England is just southwest of that Pettus area maybe as much as 15-20 miles. Your truly best bet to find some info on this is to contact Sherryl Miller. I would suggest that you write Sherryl Miller at the Lonoke County Museum, PO Box 873, Lonoke, Ar. 72086. Or you can phone her at 501-676-2496. She will go to the history commission in Little Rock to search if necessary. We are 25 miles east of Little Rock on the interstate to Memphis. Sherryl will want an outline of what you are looking for, who it is, time frame, county, etc. Sherryl will tell you where she looked, so you know that place has been searched. Sherryl does this strictly as a fund raiser. Sherryl will expect a donation to the museum building fund for her efforts. She found some stuff for me just after Christmas. Sherryl has written at least three books and is highly regarded in this area. Good luck. Linda T. Acrey Lonoke, Arkansas
