Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VV.2ADI/569 Message Board Post: The Lonoke County Museum is currently putting together the photos of the men from Lonoke County who served in WWII. A clear 5x7 photo of the man in uniform, if possible, is desired. Right now, there are four huge binders filled with these photos. An outline of the service record is needed, if possible, telling where the person served and any medals won. Also, be sure to include the date of birth, lived in what town in Lonoke County, parents names, and place of burial if deceased. If the man or woman is deceased a copy of the obit is nice. If you have not been contacted, or if you have a photo to submit for copying, please contact Sherryl Miller at the McCrary Regional Library. You may write her at the Lonoke County Museum, PO Box 873, Lonoke, Ar. 72086. Or phone at 501-2496.

I'm wondering if Bessie is my grandfather's sister who is listed in the 1910 census for DeValls Bluff, Prairie Co with her mother Laura, sister Cordele, and brother Fred. She was not listed in the 1920 census and I have been unable to find her. Her sister Cordele married Russell G Wedge and they had twins Russell (Clay) & Sarah. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

What you may need to know it that Lonoke County was not formed until 1873. If you are interested, I know a lady that I can suggest if you want to know of someone who will research for you. She gets a donation to the local museum building fund. Did they work the timber?

Wooten was born to one of these couples in May 1868. These families were in Marion, Searcy or Baxter counties at the time of the 1880 census. John L. Wooten died sometime between 1949 and 1954 near Pangburn, Ar where he lived with his son Allen and Ethel Wooten. Can any one tell me where the area that is called the 'Bottoms' is located? That is where he supposedly buried.

I know an elderly man who may have actually known these people if someone ran a store at Coy. If a Mr. Garner did that in the time frame you say, he was probably making a good living. Write me directly and I will give you the man's now e-mail. As he plans on moving right away, it will be only good for so long. He lived at Tomberlin but you have to understand these were neighboring communities that even today, I cannot tell where one stops and the other starts. Also, as most of the folks did not die until 1914, if they were here in Arkansas there are books called death index, I believe, that would tell you their dates of death if you were interested in such. I also know a lady who does research, per chance you need some more help.

I did talk to some people who do research. They agreed with me in that if your kin said she was buried there, it was done. In this day and age, we seem to think things are always done a certain way. But during the times the lady lived and died, it was not always done. There just was no money. It was not a lack of caring, but simply nothing to do with. Many people did well to simply survive. Good luck!

I am sorry but I do not. If someone said she was there that was living when she died, my advice is to just take their word for it. In that area you are talking about, many new people have moved in. Lots of the older folks that may have known something are long gone. I have no idea if you live in this area or not, but the depression ended here long after the 30's had passed by. If you want some help on this, I suggest you contact Sherryl Miller at the Lonoke County Museum, PO Box 873, Lonoke, Arkansas. She will search for info for you. She does this as a fund raiser for the local museum and has helped lots of people. Good luck!
