Hi Laurie, Exactly what type of information are you looking for? I am able to do census searches, if you need that kind of information. Just email me back at Pilotsmum@futura.net and I will be glad to see what I can do. Try looking at the Arkansas Death Index to find the exact date of death. It covers from 1914-1948, I think it is. Most libraries here in Arkansas will have one. Then, you could order a death certificate which might furnish some info on her kin. Also, there are cemetery books which are pretty close on most things telling who is buried where. The local library here in Lonoke has them for most of the county. But there is the chance she is buried in an unmarked grave. Many people during that time just did not have the money for such and if that is the case, there would have not been anyway for the man who wrote them to know she was even there. Good luck!

She was born in 1863 and is listed on the 1880 Drew County, Arkansas census as being 17 years old (making her birth date about 1863) and married to my great-grandfather James Herrington. I saw the name Nancy Idora in your list of descendants of John Tabor and wondered if there was a connection. Could Nancy Idora have been named after an aunt Idora? My Idora was born in MS but we have no more information about her. I have not seen an 1870 Marshall County, MS census but she would not have been listed in that 1860 one with John H. Tabor. Have you heard of Idora Tabor? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Sharon Baxter

I also found them on the poll tax, but the courthouse could not find those records. Unfortunately, I found out about the Agri-Census for 1890 to late, to get a copy of it. But I met a really nice lady at the library in Lonoke and she offered to get me a copy and send it to me At the Regional Library I found them on the personal property list for 1887-1891. I now know how many animals they had and their value. Which I thought was really great, it gives me a clearer picture of what their life was like back then. With these I was able to narrow down his father's death, ( GG Grandfather) sometime between 1892 and 1893. It was a good trip and I really enjoyed the scenery and the country side of Lonoke, it seemed like a really nice and friendly community to live in. Judy

Well, since you made it to Lonoke County, did you go to the Regional Library in Lonoke or the Lonoke County Courthouse? It would have helped you a lot to have done that. Also, those cemetery books are nice and I have them, but there are mistakes. Acccording to what Tom put together, my aunt married her sister. That is just one of many problems I have found, so you have to understand that they are a great help, but some stuff just has to be checked on.

My g- grandmother was their daughter. She was orphaned after their deaths and her journal writes that 'she lived in many different homes" before marrying my G- grandfather Marcus A. Baker. I was in Lonoke Cty last week and looked through all of the cemetery transcriptions by Tom. C Martinez and also walked several cemeteries and could not locate the graves. Unfortunately I could not check e-mail while I was there to get this in time. I would love to have pictures of their tombstones. If you need me to send you a camera or reimburse you in anyway I will certainly do so. Thank you so much for the info. This gives me hope that I can still find the Baker's also. I came to believe since all the family left there in 1893 there was no one left to take care of the graves. If you ever need research for Texas let me know I will gladly return the favor, I am in Dallas Texas and the library here is wonderful. Thank you again for the offer which I will quite shamelessly take you up on. Judy Baker

Hi Laurie, Which Buell family are you referring to? My Buells (who married into the Gray family that Gray twp was supposedly named after) were from that area, but I don't recall seeing them in the 1870 census. If so they are both buried in Bayou Meto Cemetery both dying abt. 1865. A listing of Bayou Meto inscriptions can be found at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cramsey/bayou-meto.html. I believe Matthew and Darcus' marriage date is also listed. Mary is on the 1870 Gray Twp. census living with the Buell famly. In 1873 Pulaski County annexed part of Gray Twp. to Lonoke County. Mary and Marcus married 20 Aug. 1876 in Lonoke County (Book B, Page 169). In 1880 the Bakers where living in Lonoke. I have not found where James and Elizabeth are buried yet. Elizabeth died before 1880 (James is listed as a widower). I'll keep trying to look for the Bakers. If you'd like I can try to drop by Bayou Meto sometime and photograph the tombstone (if I can find it) of the Nichols. > >Laurie > > > >==== ARLONOKE Mailing List ==== >Families are like fudge.
