Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/VV.2ADI/591 Message Board Post: Great grandfather buried in or near Carlisle in unmarked grave in 1899. How do I locate information about where they lived or where he was buried? Are there any directories available that list residents? I do not believe he farmed, as he came to Arkansas for his health. Since this all falls in a time line when Fed. Census records are not available (1890), I can't get help there. Is there a state census for 1895, and if so, where can I view that? Is it true that death certificates were not issued in 1899? Also, is there a good library in the area where I might find some information? Wondering if it's worth my time and expense to travel to the Carlisle area, or if that would be futile. Any advice appreciated. (His name was Swan/Swen Paulson). Thanks for reading this......Penny in Nebraska

My g-grandfather, William Washington Carter, came to Lonoke Co. to help run the sawmill in about 1895. Charles Wolfe was married to his sister Effie. W. W. Carter married Hattie Bradford 25 Nov. 1896 in Lonoke Co. (Hattie was daughter of Joseph Hamilton Bradford and Rebecca Lieu Celestial Hicks.) The Wolfes moved on to Oklahoma Territory about 1899, and the Carters followed about 1903. I'd appreciate any information about these people or the sawmill itself.

This is definitely my GGrandfathers sister. After going to the Census record you have listed and comparing it to the information I have on Charity Anne, everything matched. I looked Harry up on the 1930 Census, however, neither Oltie nor Annie show up. It's hard to read but it looks like Harry is widowed? Is it possible one of his boys is still living? Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I'm just so excited to have finally found my GGGrandmother, I've been looking for her for years. I knew she was alive in 1920, her husband died in January 1920. I don't have any info on Oltie's side of the family other than my GGrandfather. I know she had 4 brothers and 2 sisters. You can find Oltie on the 1910 Census in Arkansas, Van Buren County, Bloodworth Township, ED 118, Sheet #15-A. Only she is listed as Alta M., age 14. Her father is John Calvin Roberson and her mother is listed as Charity A. Thank you so very much for your response. I wish you luck in your search. Linda

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VV.2ADI/586.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hello. No I am sorry I do not. I wish I knew more myself. I do know that a sister of my great grandfather's who had been a Bayne is buried with the family group under the last name of Robison out in the Lonoke Cemetery. When she died she left at least two sons, one of whom was called Andy who was about half grown that my great grandfather actually just took in and another one whose name I do not remember right now--perhaps William, who was the father of a man named Sam Buddy Robison, who was my great great aunt's grandchild. Sam's dad was running a store at what is called Bearskin Lake when he took some sort of fever and died. Sam's mother was an Eagle who later remarried (after Robison's death) to a Sullivan. The catch to all of this is that education was not what it is today, therefore whomever might be doing the census could and would spell it however they wanted. Thus all the confusion over Roberson/Robinson/Robison. But I do remember talking to Mrs. Applewhite and her spelling the name out for me. I do not think you live in this area of the country so you probably do not know that with the way the county lines were, etc, and lots of folks traveled back and forth to Little Rock on the train all the time, you may need to be looking in adjoining counties for marriage info, etc. No matter what the spelling of the name, the info is here in this central Arkansas area I do feel sure.

I had always thought that it was Robison but have had no luck with that spelling. I have checked the census records....if it is correct in 1880 there is a John listed being b in Arkansas parents William and Clora. Does that sound familiar? And in the 1910 he is listed as a Roberson. if I could just find his parents and a marriage that would be wonderful. If you think they came from Shelby Co., does that mean you have a little more info? Hope you or someone else can help me further. Would you happen to know anymore on John Henry such as birth and death dates and where he might be buried. Just wanting to compare to what I have already. Dawn Applewhite Covill

Once again I see you are searching. It appears that you did well with the Applewhite side. I think you should know, that I believe Mrs. Applewhite was a ROBISON. Note the difference in spelling. I am just sure that is what she told me once back about 1975 or a little earlier. As I related it to my own, it stuck. If that were so, then that would explain some of your problem. I bring that to your attention as one of my great grandfather's sisters had married a Robison. That group was out of Shelby County, Tenn. arriving in what later became Lonoke County in 1869. Have you tried reading the census?
