    1. [ARLONOKE] GENTECH -- Good News!
    2. John W Konvalinka
    3. Good News: NGS GENTECH 2004 is only a week away. Even Better News: Reduced Hotel Rate We have just noticed a printing error in the GENTECH program. Fortunately, this error translates into lower costs for your GENTECH Conference stay. On page 2 of the Conference Registration Brochure, the daily rate for the Millennium Hotel is incorrectly stated as $132/night. The actual rate for GENTECH conference attendees is actually only $99/night. We apologize for this error -- but you can keep the extra $33. (Spend it in the Exhibit Hall!) So, don't miss out on this opportunity. Register now while there is still space in the Hotel. Here are the Particulars about the Conference: NGS GENTECH 2004 will be in held in St. Louis on January 22-24. Since 1993, GENTECH has been THE national conference for people interested in GENealogy and TECHnology. Now, as a new division of the National Genealogical Society, NGS GENTECH will sponsor conferences that continue to meet the needs of advanced users and those new to using technology in research. Each year the conference has featured a panel of nationally known speakers who have addressed themselves to every aspect of the use of computer and Internet technology to support genealogical research - to meet the needs of advanced users as well as those just beginning to use technology in their research. This year there will be a Librarians' Pre-Conference at NGS GENTECH on Thursday, January 22, 2004 which will feature talks by Cyndi Howells, Ruth Ann Hager and Matt Helm. Details of this special Pre-Conference are at: www.slcl.lib.mo.us/slcl/sc/gentech04/precon-schedule.htm. In addition to the Librarian's Pre-Conference, Thursday will feature two-hour tutorials on four important topics: * Building a Family Genealogy Web site * Mapping Workshop * Federal Web Sites * Digital Photography. See the full NGS GENTECH 2004 program at: www.eshow2000.com/ngsgentech/register_now.cfm or at the St. Louis Genealogical Society website: www.stlgs.org/gentech2004. If you have not attended a GENTECH conference, please consider making this your first. Our professional development depends upon finding and using the right tools to accomplish your clients' goals, and the sessions at this conference can help. Remember, you can register on line at: www.eshow2000.com/ngsgentech/register_now.cfm We look forward to seeing you in St. Louis in just a few weeks! NGS GENTECH 2004 promises to be a sellout and a highly successful conference. John Konvalinka, CGRS(sm), CGL(sm) NGS GENTECH 2004 Publicity Chair www.konvalinka.com

    1. [ARLONOKE] T. C. Williamson (Thomas Clay Williamson)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VV.2ADI/608 Message Board Post: T. C. Williamson appears as a charter member of the Lodge formed at Walter's Chapel, AR. We know he had a son, George Williamson, born in Prairie County, and that he was a physician who stayed behind to care for women and children during at least part of the Civil War. He was also on a committee to care for those families who were widowed or orphaned by the war in Prairie County. T. C. was from Pontotoc County, MS, and moved to AR sometime after 1850 with his wife M. F (Mary Frances) Wiley Williamson. George was their first child. Some researchers believe he may have been a spy for the Confederates - no research has been able to prove or disprove this. Mary Frances died, perhaps in AR and perhaps in child birth, and T. C. went back to MS during the Civil War and married Rhoda Naomi Cornwell Mathews, a Civil War widow from Pontotoc County. It is unknown if he and Rhoda returned to AR. Their own eldest child, Thomas Dorsey Williamson, was born in MS. Another child, Maxmillian Wade Williamson, was born in Water Valley, MS, in 1868. We believe George (and any of his siblings there may have been) were left at sometime with his maternal grandparents, George Wiley, in MS . Rhoda was their immediate neighbor. There are small children in their care in the 1860 census, but George's name (or that of the eldest child of the younger ones) is illegible. I have been unable to search in the Walter's Chapel cemetery website for Mary Frances or any other children who might have been born in AR. Could someone please look this up for me? Any other information about this family and their time in AR would be most appreciated!!!

To be honest with you, I think you just need to make some phone calls. I know there is a Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Sims who live now in North Little Rock according to my mother who actually knew them. I have met them and they are quite socialable folks. My cousin was married to their son for many years. My mother felt sure that this would have to be the people you were looking for. She also suggested a lady she believed who could provide the phone number if you want that. I checked the cemetery book for Mulberry Cemetery at England. There are several Sims listed including one man who was born in 1919. If you live in Arkansas, I would suggest you look at the Arkansas Death Index that you will find at a local library anywhere in Arkansas. It should give you an exact date of death and allow you to order a death certificate from which you could surely pick up some info. If you need a researcher I can suggest someone, but I truly think you just need to make some calls. Good luck!! Linda

I have a suggestion for you. I know a lady who can do some research here in Arkansas. She will ask for a donation to the local Lonoke County Museum building fund. Write Sherryl Miller at the Lonoke County Museum, PO Box 873, Lonoke, Ar. 72086 You may phone her at 501-676-2496. She will not do e-mail. She will go to the history commission in Little Rock to search, if need be. Be sure you write the name or names, what you know, a time frame such as after 1900, etc. Sherryl just recently found some stuff for me. She is a whiz at the old records and is highly respected in our area of the state. Perhaps she can help, but perhaps not. We are at Lonoke. Good luck. Linda Acrey

Surnames: Amaden, Howard Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/VV.2ADI/250.3.1 Message Board Post: Hi Christy, Thanks so much for posting! I was raised in Tampa, Fl - currently in the Navy and live in Charleston, SC. My hobby for the last 20 years has been the Amaden family history. I'm currently working with another cousin on a book. Otho Gates Amaden was the originator of the Lonoke Amaden family. He came there about 1905 and married Gernsie Drucilla Howard on Dec 23, 1909 in Lonoke County. Otho was born on Nov 7, 1874 in Milford, Defiance County, Ohio, son of Henry Amaden and Harriette Celestia Wilcox. Henry's brother John is my great great grandfather. My last record of Otho is in 1925 when he was listed in the distribution of his mother's estate. His wife "Drucie" is listed as a widow in the 1930 census. Based on what I have, I suspect that you might be the daughter of Howard Miles Amaden. Although I haven't updated it for about a year, please check out my website at www.amaden.com - where I have a good deal of genealogy posted. I have a great deal more information on the history of the family and would love to hear from you. Thanks, Chris

Sherryl just helped a man from Mississippi. Among the things she found was an article about his own dad. Right now, she is in the process of trying to secure a grant that would provide funding for a diorama of downtown Lonoke in 1897, so she is always busy. We are both actively involved in this museum. I once lived in California, way back, at LeMoore so I know where Tulare is. I would have stayed and probably made more money, but it was just too far from home for me. Good luck!!

Well, Pettus puts them south of Lonoke. It was a farming area. If the man died in the time frame you believe, he may not have a marker as times were so hard. There is a death index book which starts in 1914 and ends in 1948, that should give you his exact date of death. Then you could order his death certificate. There is a lady who does research for folks and is quite good. Write Sherryl Miller at the Lonoke County Museum, PO Box 873, Lonoke, Ar. 72086 You may phone her at 501-676-2496. She will not do e-mail. She will go to the history commission in Little Rock to search. Perhaps she can help, but perhaps not. She will expect a donation to the local museum building fund as payment. If you live close enough, you can make arrangements to meet her in the local library and let her assist you. She does that all the time for folks. We are just about twenty -five miles east of Little Rock at Lonoke. Good luck. Linda Acrey Lonoke, Arkansas
