    1. McClure family of Johnson and Logan County Arkansas
    2. Hello, I'm trying to find the family of my great grandmother, Martha Jane 'McClure' b. March 1852/55 Arkansas, who married Richard Lee Smith Nov 1870 in Johnson County, later lived in Logan County. The marriage record that my family accepts as Martha and Richard's has Martha Clune/Clure. That is another point that makes me want to accept the census for Mahala Clon/Clur. Martha Jane McClure Smith died Dec 1930 and Richard died in 1919?. They are both buried in McKendree Cemetery. I have a copy of the death certificate for Martha Jane McClure Smith, sent to me by a cousin. I have not found Martha Jane with her parents, siblings, etc, in the 1870 census, although family stories put her there in the area around Paris, Scranton, Spielerville(once named Creole), Subiaco, Ellsworth. Aunts say that she lived near Richard's family of Joseph Smith-Harriet Lee Smith in 1870. Family story relates that Martha's family disapproved of her marriage to Richard L Smith for some reason. Soon after Martha and Richard were married, Martha's McClure family moved to Missouri. I have no names for her parents. They were father born in Alabama and mother born in Tennessee. Also, one person doing research for me claims that a Mahala Clon/Clur family, living a few houses away from the Smith family is the McClure family I am looking for. In the 1870 Clark Twp, Ellsworth p.o.census of Johnson County, Mahala is listed as 34 b. Tennessee Keeping House, with four daughters: Mary C 17 b. Arkansas; Martha J 15 b. Arkansas; Rebecca C 13 b. Arkansas; Mahala C 10 b. Arkansas. I am inclined to accept this, but I will note that it isn't exactly McClure. I hope someone who is familiar with either this Martha Jane McClure family, or the Clon/ Clur/ Clune/ Clure spellings can help. Thanks to anyone for any help.
