Hello, If I may just pop into this discussion about SURGUINEs of Missouri--- I am not related to SURGUINEs, but my SPENCER ancestors were close friends with a SURGUINE family in Douglas County, MO (Spring Creek Township area) in the 1920s. I am wondering whether any of your SURGUINEs were these folks? Letters were exchanged between Rachel B. HANSON SPENCER and her SURGUINE friends. I have some of the SURGUINE-written letters, and I would love to find those written by Rachel SPENCER to them, if possible. Please let me know if this connects in any way. Many thanks! Sorry, the absolute only information I have on my McClain line is that my grandmother's name was Elizabeth, she married George Essman. Elizabeth was killed in a fall in 1892. Elizabeth's mother's name was probably Lou. Elizabeth was Choctaw, which caused a rift for several years between my grandmother, Susan Elizabeth, and her half siblings before she finally decided not to get her Indian number. Sorry, that's it. Hi Robin, I'm trying to find my McClain/Mclain line. All I know about them is that my great grandmother's name was Elizabeth McLain and her mother was called Lou. A family story is that Lou lived to be in her 100's and passed away when she fell into the bed she was making. Grandma Elizabeth was killed when she fell off a horse about 1892. If any of this sounds familiar to you, I'd appreciate any information you might be willing to share. I noticed in the 1880 cenus he was born in TN as well as his father and mother. My "McLain's" came from Tn also and I do have cousins who spell McLain McClain. My 3rd great grandfather was Jesse McLain and his father was Joseph McLain. Jesse died in 1854 IT OK. I finally made a break through to discover my great grandmother's Maiden name is Gray! My great grandfather is Newburn McClain and my great grandmother is Sarah Rebecca (Gray) McClain. As you can see in the 1880 census Sarah (Gray) McLane is the brother to James Gray living in the next farm. Also Anna must be Sarah (Gray) McLane's mother. Both Sarah (Gray) McLane and James Gray are from Alabama. One problem is Anna is from S. Carolina and Sarah says her mother was from Alabama. I Need to locate the Census of 1870 and 1860 of the Gray family listed below. Could be in Johnson county or Logan county.
