    1. Re: [ARLOGAN] Benjamin, Syntha (Cynthia) Brown About HICKS Settlement????
    2. Hi ~First off, I don't have anything to give you on your question, however your email brings a question from me which is you mention HICKS. Are you referring to an area in Logan County called HICKS SETTLEMENT? If so, can anyone familiar with that settlement give me directions on how to get there by driving?? I remember going there as a child and through my tweens, but for the life of me cannot remember how to get there now, and would dearly love to go and snap photos of Hicks Settlement and the Old Hicks Cemetery there. I remember standing by a few abandoned old homes there, one in the bend of a deeply rutted unpaved road, and the cemetery being on much higher ground. That is about all. Anyone give me directions so I can drive there for this. I am a descendant of William Hicks and his descendant, Elbert Daily or E.D. Hicks. 1. [ARLOGAN] Dobbs/Coleman
    2. Jo Ann Whitworth
    3. Hello list, I am trying to find out if the nephew of my grandmother's sister was a coal miner in Logan county. His name was William Tillman Dobbs, son of David Wilson Dobbs, and grandson of Thomas Mephy Dobbs (born abt. 1835 in TN) and Hanna Anna Dawson Dobbs (born abt 1837 in IL). William Tillman Dobbs was born Nov 1892 in Paris, Logan County, Arkansas. His mother was Eliza Ann Coleman (born April 1868 in Paris, Logan County, Arkansas), daughter of Stephens and Ann (Deen) Coleman, both of whom were born in Paris. I would also like to have information on a George Dobbs and his sister Martha Dobbs Brown who lived in Logan County. Does any one know who their parents were? Is anyone researching Ernest Gill from Lucas, Logan County, Arkansas? I have a picture taken sometime between 1947-1954, of my grandparents at the side of Mr. Gill's house (which they rented from him). It is an unpainted board house with a tin roof. Ernest was often at my grandparent's house when my family was visiting, and must have enjoyed my grandma's county cooking because he always stayed for dinner (what we now call lunch). Can't remember what he looked like, only that he was younger than my grandparents and my grandma loved to tease him, which always turned his face beet-red. Jo Ann Whitworth

As you may not be aware there is no 1890 census; so we would be unable to locate any records of this marriage - unless you were able to go directly to the public library in this city and look for the marriage license - Oklahoma does not have them online; nor do they have anything on different death certificates. My guess is that they died sometime before 1900; possibly by the Great Flu Epidemic that started to ravage this portion of Oklahoma at the time. My great grandmother died in 1908 from the plague; she lived in Gavin, Oklahoma where thousands died. As you can also see your Lewis and Willie had four children; nicknames were not put into census often; mostly Wm, Jno, J, or more standardized abbreviations came after 1900, so you see some order to the records. I will continue my search and place there profile in my FTM and see if I can dig up anything else. Do you have any information on the earlier family, maybe a stray name that does not seem to fit in family lore, maybe an old card or photo with a name on the back that does not fit your direct line? 2. Bill Smith
    3. I am searching for additional information on George William Smith, my grand uncle, who lived in Scott County. It appears that he may have moved away after the death of his first wife, Eliza May on 12 16 1882. Eliza and four of hers and George's children are buried in the Smith Cemetery in Waldron, Scott County, AR. Burial dates are from 1872 to 1882. George remarried Susan ? sometime after 1882 and presumably moved away. I saw somewhere in my thrashings around the information sources that a Smith descendant of George and Susan were looking for kinfolks. I clicked on the given email address and the letter bounced back to me. Apparently his email address had changed. He left no address so I may have been able to locate him that way. Could someone out there please help me find these cousins. Thank you so much, Bill Smith in Oklahoma

There are 238 references and different files I pulled from, but the borad will not take all of them - let me know if you would like me to take family tree maker and make a book for you or if you would like a gencom of the file. I know that sometimes things do sound strange doing this, names do not pass down within a family that the parents die young; I lost my family at 12 and had to look at every person to get to the 60,000 relatives I have today. I am probable related to your Ida Worthen Tomlinson; there is a son-in-law in one of the households - I just cannot remember off had, I put it into the notes in the file, which when privatized gave you some of the main notes but not all of them. My original family is from Jackson, Alabama. My Brown's and Gotcher's come from Logan and farmed there until the late 1880; then moved to Denton, Texas. I is interesting that Tomlinson are in my database but I have no connections for them yet; your family seems to work in that direction. Last night I found Levi' family which is also from the original family in the Arkansas area. Clearly, there are some major problems with the World Connect files; people of the wrong age in the family and other things that just make the file look suspect. My census information I can verify to 1850; which you would see in the other references; after that they world connect or census information from 1790 - 1840 were used to see if the proper count of individuals were present. If so I put the count in the notes section. Let me know what you would like me to do for you - I am at brick walls in my family file and just research the outer family now - so I took a break and spent some time on! your request so I could give back to all those that helped me. My direct research email is altafae@aol.com - the entire file I have now is 48 pages; if I were to make the book it would probably be larger - as it would cross reference and produce an index for you to search, as it would be a PDF file. I found your William in census records prior to his adult age; he was seen as W S; William S; and Scott. His SSI death names him as William; and so does his war records. If you need direct information please contact me at altafae@aol.com - as ancestry does not allow conversations between researchers; a complete list of the references may make the posting I made more understandable. I am trying to help my Aunt trace her Marshall roots. She is the daughter of Richard Ernest Marshall and Clemmie Phillips. The family lived in Driggs, Arkansas. I haven't looked at my research recently but it sounds like you are on to something and Albert and David are related for sure. My Aunt always thought that Albert was born in Cummberland Gap, Tennessee but I have not found anything that would suggest that is true. Her family records indicate that he served in the Civil War and at one time he drove for the Pony Express. Albert and his wife, Anne Coleman-Marshall are buried at Paint Rock Cemetery, Logan County, Arkansas. I will ask her if she can recall hearing anything about David Marshall. We would love to have any information that you are willing to share. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
