Faye, You are so right...she hopes so much to find her lost links..the Hollingsworth's from Middletown, CA..it has been so many years since she talked to them..fortuntately when my oldest son..now 26 was a baby...i went to Middletown and got a picture of her with him and i..and that is the last picture anyone ever saw of her! now her kid's are missing...we do not know where they are...as soon as i find out about our great grandparents i will start that search..needless to say then start on her father's side...so much work but worth it! my oldest sister has been going to where she can in oklahoma and take pictures of the graves we find.....so far..no one has any idea where Eldora is buried.....amazing..when i started this i asked her what her grandpa's name was.....she said papa...ahhhhhh how cute...my mom is so excited when my sister and i find anything..i am doing the researching and my sister is taking pictures..gathering pictures and sending me all of them...we have few family pictues left but are blessed to have some....i cannot believe we don't know much....but it has been years since we have seen any of the family....my great uncle j.d. is from leavenworth and we think he still has children or family there...it is Silvester and Eldora we are desparately seeking..yes...it means alot to mama....she was shocked to hear about her grandpa being a deputy sherrif.....we wish other family members would pitch in..but as we unfortunately found out...they just want to register in the indian tribes for benefits.....it is ok i guess...but still.....would help...my sisters uncle took 35 yrs to search family history to the 1600's..how exciting! thank you for everything..you have been a instument in us knowing our family..now we can get these certificates.....to my sister, mother and i....wer are just happy to know our heritage....if we benefit from it..that is a blessing and bonus..not our intentions...we have cherokee and choctaw in us....i want to know where it came from...they seem to think SIlvester was choctaw...do you have any idea about this? thanks for everything keep in touch Teressa:)
Amy, I believe that the WORKMAN'S they are researching were only in Logan co, Ark. and then Haskell & LeFlore Countys of Oklahoma. That's were I found the marriage and cemetery records for them shown below. Their Stewart line (Fathers name Louis Stewart) are the one's that went to California. thanks for the link!!! so nice of you!
I lived in Stigler as a little girl, my father may have known your grandfather Workman, I will ask him, he is age 92 but, is smarter than me! There is ONE biography in the "History of Haskell County" for Workman....the way I read it, he is most likely out of your family, and it gives the names of the currently living Workman family of Stigler (1980's the book was published, I bought the last two copys they had years ago), then his children, who they married and where they all live. It said he followed in the footsteps of his materal grandfather by following the lawman field.......I think it must have meant Paternal grandfather since, his last name is also Workman......right?! You want these names and places they live by private email?? And I'll give you a wonderful website (one of the best on the internet) to go to to get all the marriage, birth, death, cemetery records for Haskell Co., Okla.... The information on Silvester is foggy...one says one thing another says another...but Silvester had two brothers and one sister.....we think his brothers names were Ike and George...and Ike had two son's named R.D. or Ardy and Jack....George married Bertha and had a daughter named Bulah....and his sister is Whiteny first or last name..no one knows for sure..this is all we have on Silvester... i am so happy to have found this information and site.....thanks for evreything Teressa
thanks faye Louis Stewart is my great mothers only brother from Logan County AK....to my knowledge...the only Workman that lived in California is Dora Workman...she married Jess Hollingsworth and lived in Middletown, CA>.they are both dead and we have lost all contact with her children..Dorothy Pauline, Jessie Walter, Charles and Donald...we do not know where they are or how to contact any of that part of the family...which saddens my mother..but when Dora and Jess died..they lost contact with the rest...My mother was the only Workman descendant to our knowledge that came to California and raised us children there but she now lives in Ok..the rest of the family stayed in Oklahoma and Kansas.....her maide name was Wiginton....SIlvester is her grandpa of course.. We also do not know where any of Uncle Lou's children are...Reba married a man named David Crowser and they are divorced..they had three children named Larry David, Jewell Barbara Ann and Vicky....Rosie lived in California....Thomas lived in Paris< AK he is dead...Lillian had a son named Bobby and she died and was rasied by Reta, Ardy or R.D . is dead and Bill is their other son and we do not know if any of these relatives are alive or anything else about their families:( THank you so much for all of your help Teressa

> WORKMAN, Silvester age 21 to Eldora Stewart no age 12 April, 1903 > Iron Bridge, Indian Territory Iron Bridge, Indian Territory > This town and the marriage certificate are in LeFlore County, Okla,. beside > Haskell County. Just to clarify: I am not related to this family. Were Silvester and Eldora's children or Lou and (blanking on her name)'s children born in California? I tried to do a lookup in the California Birth Index, now only available at one site and it claims to be temporarily disabled until tomorrow. I hope it is only temporary because with the loss of this index under pressure from California's shortsighted government we will lose a lot. Please show your support for open records. --Amy

On Lou Stewart: STEWART LOUIS 08/18/1888 YATES STEWART M ARKANSAS CONTRA COSTA 06/18/1958 430-01-2534 69 yrs His mother's maiden name then, was Yates. Viola's information, unfortunately, does not give a mother's maiden name and father's last name: STEWART VIOLA 05/26/1886 F ARKANSAS SAN LUIS OBISPO 12/18/1973 87 yrs This may not be her, but it's a good shot. Have you tried to get a death certificate on either of these individuals? It would help provide more information as well as perhaps containing the name of an informant -- typically a child on Viola's. --Amy
