    3. Looking for any clues as to the family of Jim Robinson who married Flora A. Powell on Mar 12, 1899 in Logan Co.(have also seen name spelled Roberson). She was [email protected] in Logan Co., the daughter of James Powell, jr and Martha Jane Mullings. I have a family picture that includes 6 children, but no names. I know of at least one child--Ethel, who married Claud Horn, but that is all I know. In the Ar Death Index for 1934-40, there is a Flora Robinson who died in Logan Co. 7/20/1938 that appears to be her. There is also listed a James Robinson who died in Logan Co. on 6/10/1938. Thanks for any leads. Dickey Powell

    3. Indeed. If you will go to McCurtain Genealogical Society via OKGENWEB for Haskell Co. you will find some links. Also, type in Native American by Marriage in your search engine and you should come up with multiple hits. [email protected] wrote: > Are there any marriage records on Native Americans? 1. [ARLOGAN] born on Indian Reservation info
    2. Ron McCandless
    3. There was a portion of land in this area that encompassed several counties north and east of Logan Co AR that were "guaranteed" to the Cherokee. Of course, that clause in the treaty about "forever" only held true for about ten years from 1817 til 1827. The present day counties involved all or in part were: Johnson, Boone, Marshall, Baxter, Newton, Franklin, Conway, Van Buren, Cleburne, Faulkner & Crawford. The tip of this land extended over the western border of AR from Crawford Co into the IT. Logan Co. The Southwestern border of this area must have been the Arkansas River, at least that was the border at Johnson and Franklin Cos. Therefore, none of the land of Logan was actually a part of this area. The area south of that river I think (stress the think) was in control of the Creeks or the Osage. There was not a treaty that made it anything that could be referred to as a reservation. In fact, the Cherokee area was not a "reservation" either. Just a technical point though since the family story would have used the term "reservation" if it involved land where Native Americans lived. There is however another possibility. The time frame of the birth rules out any actual truth to a "Indian Reservation" circa 1886. However, in the records of the BIA there are some Cherokee, Creek and others that accepted land (usually 640 acres) as a "personal reservation" and with that acceptance they declared their intent to become a citizen of the US. These records are scarce but I've read documents that mention Arkansas. The rules were that the "reservee" could not sell the land and had to maintain his permanent residence on that land. Normally, his heirs could title the land free and clear upon the death of the reservee and therefore sell it. Just giving you some clues for further research, hope it helps. Been there, researched that. 3. I made a trip down to our Historical Society to learn of sanitarium in our area. From what I understand there was one in Talihina which is in LeFlore County, and one in McAlester (50 miles) which is in Pittsburg County. The gentleman who I spoke to said he didn't know of one around here, (Stigler) but that didn't mean there wasn't one. He said they were all over the place for a while. However, if you go to McCurtain Genealogical Society website you will find a listing for everyone buried in Haskell Co Cemeteries so far. There have been several unnamed cemeteries found recently that are not yet on line. BSC

Louis Stewart was born in Logan County AR....but where was a indian reservation>??? we have no idea.....the family back then did NOT talk about their indian heritage....it is so obvious they are indian...our great uncle and grandma...as well as us....high cheekbones etc.....so where would one look in the Logan County AR area for a indian reservation? no one has any idea where Eldora was born..they both were married in Indian Territory Lefore County, but no maiden name on Eldora's marriage records..no age...on Louis, Yates is the maiden name..anyone have any clues as to where to begin to look for his birth place? or what reservations at that time were in Logan County area? any help is so appreciated thanks in advance Teressa

As far as I know they had one daughter named Irene. The last I have on her she was living in Fort Smith, Ark in 1930, at the time of her fathers death. (As was in the obit). Would appreciate any help of info on any of these 3 persons. Thanks in advance.
