Betty, I want to thank-you so much for all of your hard work. I know from using an 1850 census I found on line for Bledsoe County, Tennessee, just how helpful your work can be for those of us researching. I am looking forward to seeing the balance of the census as my Lees were in the area since statehood. Of course that means they are connected to many of the long time resident families. It is a shame that you have run into so much trouble. So much of the census work is in databases with a fee to access them, that one available for free is truly a Godsend. Thanks again. This is really great. Thank you all. I understand the complexities of transcribing. I'm working on two districts for Weakley County Tenn for the year 1870. Its a lot of hard work. Linda B
All of you have done a beautiful job on the 1880 Logan Co. Census. I just looked at all of it and think you should be commended for it. I did not have any relation that I know of there but always like to look in all census where I know some of my family once lived.... Thanks again. However, I notice that it hasn't been done. I hope y'all will take advantage of this FREE copy of the census and enjoy using it as much as Frank and I enjoyed transcribing it. We had to do our proofreading at our local library since we don't own a microfilm reader and we needed to use theirs. We appreciated all the patrons who tolerated our reading aloud and never complained even once! There are pitfalls to transcribing an entire census like this. The one that has amused us the most is that we now question our spellings of common names we have spelled all our lives but found repeatedly spelled differently on the census. We find ourselves unsure which spelling is really correct sometimes! > > We are working on the 1900 Logan County and will get that on-line for you as soon as we can. Dear List members, Maybe some of you remember when Pam Ingle told you that the 1880 Logan County, Arkansas Census was going to be put on our Logan County website courtesy of Betty and Frank Cochran. It will definitely be after the first of the year though. Betty Cochran
Yesterday at the History Commission I was checking the Marriage books for Logan County for the years 1901-1910. I remembered that someone on the list had been interested in the Sykes family. This was an index, so no spectific dates. Hope it helps someone S. S. Hampton married Ida L. Sykes R. J. Nifong m. W. H.Sykes A.E.Wright m. Rosie Sykes Someone was interested in Thurstons: J. L. Thurston m. Francis Smith
Yes, I am interested in the Thurston's and thanks for the concern and taking the time to recognize it. I have their marriage date but do not know what happened to them after 1930. The obit said she was in Ft. Smith at the time of her father's death, but have no idea if they really did live in Ft. Smith and where did she die?? Thanks again.
