I see only one thing that could make me feel this is wrong but given the times I do not feel it is that important. Hannah states b ca 1844 in 1880, the later census she states 1848-1849. According to the 1880 Erath Co census, JR Ferguson had wife HJ b PA abt 1844,dtr ML b 1873 TX & son AN b 1878 TX. They are living next door to her brother A Metsgar. Looking for any male Ferguson in 1910 b 1877-1879 whose name begins with A, I found only one and it was Abraham in Eastland Co. His father b AL his mother b PA. Next door to Abraham is Anna J Webb b PA and this is her second marriage. Husband is Oliver P b 1841 MS. I then went backwards to 1900 to find this Oliver P Webb that is married to Hannah. They were in Eastland Co and she is Hanna b PA with her son George O and her son Abe, who is enumerated as step son to Oliver P Webb. Still searching on Abr* Ferguson(using soundex), I find him and her in AZ in 1920. That is also where his WWl card was. Eastland Co and Erath Co are adjacent to one another. My family lived in Fulton Co AR that became Izard Co when the county lines changed, this could have been what happened here. Just wanted you to take a little closer look in case this is your family. You could try sending for a death certificate on George to see if his mother was Hannah Metzger, which I believe she was. Good luck, Rayedene Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. What yr was Jewell born and was her maiden name French? I did find some other things on your family that may help you. 1910 Abraham N FURGESON was in Eastland Co TX. 1920 He is in Cochise AZ with his mother, Hannah WEBB b PA. Abraham's WWl card is in Graham Co AZ, his middle name is Newton. Hannah had a son George b 1892/3 TX with her second husb Mr Webb. His WWl card states he was b 1891 in Eastland Co TX. 1900 Eastland Co is Oliver P Webb with wife Hannah b 1849 PA, son George and step-son Abe. Looking back at the 1910 census in Eastland Co, Abe is living next door to his mother and step-father. I believe the dtr married a James Hendrix abt 1892. I find a Mary L b 1873 in 1910 in Delta Co and in 1900 Lillie b 1872 in Wood CO. They are the same lady as the children in the home are the same on both census. She states on both her father b AL and mother PA. I don't find a death on Hannah or either of her husbands. I also do not find one on Abe. I believe I did on George Webb in Cochise Co AZ. She is widowed. In 1850 Independence Co, there is a William Whitney b TN with wife Mary and son James H age 1. That is prob the same Wm, what if he is the W Whitney that died in 1860? Next door to Wm in 1850 there is a John b Tn with several children all b MO. One of the kids is Wade. The James H Whitney is in Hopkins Co 1880 married to Arminda Roberts. Hamp Whitney is in Lamar Co 1880 married to Nannie Fletcher 1878. They are in Red River 1900 & 1910. 1900 their children are all girls, Jessie 10,Mattie 8, Myrtle 5 & baby girl 3mos. On the TX death certs, there is a Juanita who states parents were WH Whitney and Nanie Fletcher. There is a Jessie Kuhn who states father WH. They both died in Houston. What is it with these Whitneys that they can not be found, easily anyway, on the census? I am also from TX but in the SE part. It's sad that they have been abandoned. Even moreso sad that no one back then wrote down the peoples names. I have seen a lot of damage from the elements, as well as what I suspect to be vandalism. It's truely a shame. The vandal doesn't realize that they have just erased someones hope of finding thier ancestor's grave. Is there any other possibilities as far as cemeteries is concerned? The other poster on this thread found a land record for William Whitney, which is probably (I'd bet on it) a brother my W. ("Wade") Whitney. Their are many Wade's that are connected to my line. Named after Wade Hampton revolutionary war hero of the south. The hamp couldn't be "Wade's" son. We can find in the 1860 census that Margaret, age 13 is listed as Whitney, so therefor Hamp may be a relative with other surname, but just called Whitney. Also, based on what I found, Margaret J Sickles-Anderson-Bartley is buried in New Haven Cemetery in Bagwell, Texas... in an unmarked grave. I'm still waiting for this fact to be confirmed. But in my bk it is Pleasant Hill. There once was a school there by that name. It was recently canvassed and there are no Whitneys listed. But, there is a possibility he is there, just no marker left to record. The earliest death is Liberty Pearce, who was son to my 3ggrandparents. They are there also. So, your Whitneys and my Pearces were nieghbors. In Foreman, take 108 west, past the concrete plant to CoRd 20. Take a rt. The cem is abt 2 mi down this rd. There will be a sharp turn to the left, and then a little further down the road, as you approach a hill, there is a bluff to your left. The cem is on top of that bluff completely out of sight and all grown up. It will be full of vegetation this time of year and full of snakes, I am told. Bk 1 pg 120. You can get a copy of the marriage record at: http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start (He was married previously in 1842 to Lucinda Wyatt.) On that first pg go to Search or Browse record collections; then scroll down to AR marriages 1837-1957. TX death cert are also there further down. They did have the images of those but I have not been able to get them to load lately. William Sickle and Nancy are on the 1850 Sevier Co census with 2 dtrs, Margaret and Mary Ann. They are with her in 1860 listed as Whitney. I find no burial for either William Sickle or W Whitney in Sevier or Little River. If they lived around Rocky Comfort that cem is called Pleasant Hill. In 1870 Margaret is married and is living in Red River Co TX, Henry & Hampe Whitney are with her. No Nancy. I looked at the TX Deaths and find Margaret died in 1918 in Red River. Since I could not open the death cert, I could not see where she is buried. Hope this helps some, at least with the source data on the marriage of Wm Sickle & Nancy Morris. Author: GradyWhitney78 Surnames: Whitney Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.arkansas.counties.littleriver/1187/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello board, I am looking for any clues as to where W (probably Wade, but possibly Walter) Whitney would have been buried. He probably lived nearby Rocky Comfort, which is now present day Foreman, Arkansas. I do not find him in any census, but he was married to a women named Nancy. Her last name is perhaps Morris, but I am not sure about that. This information comes from another researcher. The surname Morris may be inaccurately assumed from another record of Richard Whitney of Independence, and Izard counties. W. (Wade?/Walter?) Whitney married (early 1850's) Nancy after her first husband William Sickles died. W. Whitney is listed in the 1860 Sevier county, Arkansas mortality schedule as having died of a Rising (an abcess of some kind) age 33, born in Missouri. Nancy, and children are listed in the 1860 Sevier county, Arkansas census. I have not found anything else on Ancestry.com that would tell me more about W. Whitney. This is my ggg-grandfather. Can anyone help? Any information is appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Carol Goodenough and Barbara Hernden have just put out their first genealogy newsletter. They live in MI. It is free. You can sign up to receive a monthly newsletter or whenever they send one out if you like. I ordered some material from them that they had just used in their first genealogy class and I was well pleased. The packet is excellent for someone who is just starting out tracing their family history and it also had some good reminders of info for those of us that have been doing this for a long time. If you decide to order their materials or get the newsletter, I would appreciate you letting them know how you found them. I don't receive anything for helping them. I'm just trying to help us all make our jobs a little easier when it comes to research. You may contact Carol at: ggsgenea@aol.com Jane Foley SC
