The index information does not give his place of birth, but it looks like it could be Illinois. I haven't found second or middle names for the Dorer family members who were in RR in the 1890's. Alfred can be left out as a possibility -- I know his history. Louis was born in 1868, and census records say Indiana was place of birth. By 1870 the family was in Illinois. There is a RR marriage, 9 Dec 1887 between him (I think) and A.F. Petty. Reference for that is "Red River County Marriage Records, 1886-1894, page 295; marriage performed by E.C. Martin". That would seem to exclude him. Always possible he remarried after that. The third son Samuel, born 1873 Illinois, married Abigail McClendon 4 Aug 1899 in Red River. That was 6 months after Lucretia married Samuel Johnson. Samuel Dorer was 26, so I've thought he could have had an earlier first marriage, but can't find any earlier record. I think I found the Louis Doerr you saw on the 1880 Illinois census. His mother was Gertrude, his father John, and in 1900 he's living with a married sister, Elizabeth Wachter. His age does not match the 1880 census, but she is Elizabeth Dorer Wachter and her 1900 address is on the father's 1902 death certificate. Louis Dorer's occupation on the 1900 census is 'railroad clerk'. His father was a 'lumberman'. I don't find any Arkansas link. Louis (died 1907), father John, and Elizabeth Wachter are all buried in the same cemetery in Chicago. I looked at the 1890 tax list and don't see Duncans from Lucretia's family. I've seen mortgage documents for E. and T.J. Duncan in LR from about 1882 to 1888. (Didn't make copies, unfortunately). These were Lucretia's father and brother Elijah and Thomas Jefferson Duncan. They were farming -- I don't know if they owned the land they farmed. I need to go back and get copies of those. By 1890 they may have moved or been on the way to Yell -- not sure. Although I can not find a way to connect them other than the similarities in the name and the proximity to LR Co. Of course, also the births being Ger and IL. That is the same family I had seen in an earlier census with a wife Gertrude, which is another common factor. Have we ever considered his name could be ____ James Dore or vice versa and went by James? I have searched on just Dore but have not had anything stand out, I have also searched on Dove, Doer, Dore*, Dore using soundex, anything I could possibly come up with. Just don't know enough abt him to be able to feel as if I even got close. I have the Mary Turner Kinard listings that has the 1890 territorial census for OK but I do not see him there as Dore or Dare. Do you have a different site that you use? I talked to my friend who live in Alleene east of Foreman. According to her 6 miles SE of Foreman would be around Wallace to Arden, most likely Wallace. I compared his land description to a book I have on the Twps, ranges, etc and it looks like Wallace to me. That is where my father was born in 1923 and his mother before him in 1899. Their family was Miller and stayed there until abt 1921-22. I have a booklet somewhere that names the ones who were members of the church there in Wallace. I will have to look high and low for that as it is with my Dad's stuff and I can't get a feel for where it is right now. If I find it, I will check it out to see if any of the names are listed. I am especially interested in Jane/James Gertrude's birth cert. It should have her father's name on it and his place of birth. Of course, if they knew it to give. Can not imagine where they married. Cass Co TX has a good listing of marriages, only ones I can access in Miller & Bowie are the unclaimed ones where I found the marriage for Lucretia to Sam Johnson. Since her sisters married in Miller and you have those, I would say if she married in Miller, hers would be there as well. Maybe they married in Bowie or McCurtain Co OK. You found some great information there. Gracie J. was Gracie JANE, and Lucretia E. was Lucretia EVELINE. And Gracie named her first daughter Evelyn/Eveline (not sure of the spelling). It's worth getting copies of those records. Jane Gertrude Dore's name on both the 1900 and 1910 census appears to be James, and apparently that's also on the AR Prior Births record. Name on her marriage license record is JANE Gertrude; the attached note of permission from step-father Samuel Johnson just gives her name as Gertrude. This is confusing. Re. Oklahoma and the Duncans: They were in Carroll, TN in 1880, and I found some mortgage records for them in LR from 1882 on. Two of Lucretia's sisters married in LR 1885 and 1887 and another in Bowie TX 1890. One of her brothers had a son born in Miller, AR in 1887, and another brother was in Bowie TX up to 1900. One brother and her parents (it seems) left LR about 1890, were in Yell AR until about 1898, and then Oklahoma. The brother from Bowie joined them there after 1900. So I haven't thought an earlier Dore marriage in Oklahoma for Lucretia was likely. Lucretia's four sisters married at ages 18-25, and I'm guessing Lucretia may have married Dore in AR or TX around 1889-90 when she would have been 20 or 21. Dore children were born 1892/94/96, and she had lost one child, likely Dore, according to the 1900 and 1910 census. I'm thinking that there should be a LR, Miller, or Bowie record for the marriage to Dore, but cannot find anything. Newspapers are another resource -- I haven't looked through them. When I visited the Ashdown library they were missing the role I wanted. Called Washington before going there, and they didn't have that role either. I gave up too quickly and should revisit that. Maybe the AR Prior deaths records have the answer. Have been talking to Teresa about the difficulty of this search. Maybe this is the key, Teresa. Hope so. He was Louis Doerr in Chicago (1880)with parents Ludwig and Gertrude both b Prussia. Made sense to me because of birth places for the Dore children's father was Il or Ger on the census and also because of Jane being Jane Gertrude. I went on to find Louis died in 1907 in Chicago. Could not find him in the 1900 census tho. Don't think JB Dorough is the right one for being the father of the children. I can not see the image of the license, or there is not one, but the description for Mary L Duncan is "Mrs". On the AR Prior Births, there is JAMES Gertrude Dore(mthr Lou Duncan) b Jun 17 1896 LR Co. I knew I had seen her as James Gertrude someplace but had forgotten where. To order this(maybe her father is named): Year 1958,binder 1, Volume 020, Certificate 3834. There is also one for Gracie Jane Johnson. This may be a great find as her mother is named Lucretia EVELINE Duncan b Nov 10 1899 LR Co. Year 1958, Binder 1, Volume 024, Certificate 4767. Those are the only 2 I see for Lou. Since Lou's family moved to OK could she have married Dore there? Could be a long shot but there are newspapers for that time frame in the lib at Ashdown and aslo as the archives at Old Washington. There just may be a mention of Dore's death.
