I know they lived in Lincoln County, Arkansas in 1910 and they had two children Ernest and Iva (twins) 1 year old. I thought you might have access to a 1910 Census for Lincoln County. I would like to know his occupation and how long they were married in 1910. I have most of the other information but don't know when or where they were married. I am very new to this and a bit unsure if I should bother you or not. Thanks anyway, John S. Smith --part1_58.58f859ce.25a77923_boundary--
Hello Everyone! I hope your holidays were very safe and happy. I also hope the new year brings you all the good things and perhaps an elusive ancestor or two. I am researching my MULLIKIN/MUCKLEROY line in Lincoln County. William Wade Mullikin wed Mary Emaline Muckleroy. Mary's death certificate states her parents are Bud Muckleroy and Omie Wilhite. Bud is not much to go on! William Wade or Bill was the son of J. Francis Mullikin and Martha Wade Blasengame. Mary had a brother named James W. Muckleroy who died in 1943. I can't find anyone to help me on this so far. Mary and Bill left Arkansas and moved to Oklahoma in 1920. Anyone out there recognize these names? Also, I found a very informative site I want to share with you: http://www.50states.com/ It even has live cameras to view certain cities in each state! Tulsa has more than 4! Little Rock has 2. Very interesting. Aug. 7, 1925: Miss Jewel Rupe is home on her vacation and at the same time recuperating from a slight indisposition. Mississes Ruby Fish and Bertha White, Miss Ruby from Fayetteville and Miss Bertha from New Orleans, are at home here. Emmette Miller has thrown up his position at Little Rock and is now at home here. It is reported that he will conduct the singing at religious meetings hereabouts. Mrs. W.E. Dodds was operated on for the relief of appendicitis at Pine Bluff last Saturday. The operation is said to have been successful and the lady getting along just fine. We regret very much to record the serious illness of an aged Confederate soldier and highly respected and esteemed fellow-citizen, J.W. Russell. He is at the home of his son-in-law, Sam (?) Clower, near town. Father and Mother crook have had as guest for several days Mrs. Mary Floyd of Camanche, Texas, and J.A. McWorther and family of Granberry, Texas. Mrs. Floyd is a sister of Mother Crook and Mrs. McWorther a niece of Father Crook. Victor Felley and Miss Leora McGregor were married here last Saturday eve at the Methodist parsonage by the pastor of the church, Rev. O.C. Birdwell. The groom is a school teacher and is well and favorable known in the county, while the bride is said to be a very pretty girl and has a large circle of friends, whom we feel sure will join us in wishing them the best of luck all through life. Johnny Carter, one of our home boys, has accepted and active engaged as pitcher for the Standard Lumber Co. baseball team of Pine Bluff, and Cullen Tarver, another home boy, is with the Boosters of the same city, as pitcher. We extend congratulations to the young men and may they come out stars of the first magnitude in the diamond. Due to the scarcity of rural doctors, many country people still retain their tonsils. (I love this one!) A man will go a long way to save face, and a woman will go a still longer way to powder her nose. (this one too!) Girls in fishing for a husband often fail to land him by trying to hurry the sucker into biting. (my most favorite!) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I know that they are buried in Leek/Drake Cemet. Could you please see if you can locate any info in the obits about Bolden Green or James William? In the newspaper clippings from the Lincoln I did not see any articles with any of them. I know that Mable Matthews died tragically in a fire when her daughter was only 3 years old (Arlie Lee Bailey) and that James William Bailey re-married to Lettie Matthews, Mable's sister so that she could help raise little Arlie. Dec. 1919: Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Cotner, after spending about two weeks in the country with Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Bush, returned home Saturday. "Boss" said he put in some strenuous days using the hammer and saw and that the outing proved beneficial to both. He could eat more and with greater relish and the wife's health much better. Mrs. Geo. R. Hawley is the guest of her mother, Mrs. C.H. Lyman, in Star City, and will remain until after the holidays when she will join her husband at Pine Bluff where they will in future reside. Mr. Hawley is engaged in the realestate business in that city. Virgil Flemister, one of our longtime colored subscribers, owing to sickness, let his subscription go by default, but as soon as he could he came to town and again enrolled as a subscriber for the Ledger. Lincoln county is noted for its many industrious, law-abiding negro citizens and in this respect Virgil is numbered among the best. The other morning when W.A. Echols took pity on his wife and got up preparatory to making the fire, he heard something scratching on the wall. On investigation he found a rat on a nail in the wall and he secured a stick and killed the reptile. He said the rat in attempting to get away scaled the wall and got wound around the nail and not knowing how to unwind itself perished by a knock on the the head by the valiant gentleman. The Ledger just learned this morning of the total destruction by fire Wednesday night of the residence occupied by Lincoln county's former farm demonstrator, Sam Williams, with his daughters, at South Bend. With the exception of a few articles of clothing they loast all their effects and the family arrowly escaping from the burning building. Star City, Dec. 9, 1919: Dear Old Santa Claus, Please bring me me a bugle, toy auto, knife and lots of fireworks and fruits. Your little boy, Woodrow Vick. Dear Old Santa Claus, I want you to bring me a trunk, story book, knife and lots of fireworks; also my little sister, Geneva, a big doll and little broom, and don't forget the fruits. Your little boy. Newton Vick. There are some processes in the world in which the speed mania does not yet wholly control; and one of these, we opine, is in connection with making love to a girl. There are a great many old folk right here in Star City and elsewhere over this big country, which does and has done so many big things in a hurry, who have not forgotten and who never will forget, the elm-bordered meadow, the moon-lit path and the murmuring stream along whose bright banks they wandered when they first were in love. The vision of of bright eyes swimming in their own ethereal essence, pouting lips and glossy ringlets and voices that rang sweetly in their hearts, are living realities today, even while many of these same old sweethearts are passing down the western slope of life's steep hillside to sleep at the foot in long repose. I'm not sure the date on this one, possibly 1909: Last Tuesday morning our little town was shocked by the announcement that Mrs. A.W. Nobles was dead. She was sick only a few hours and her death not expected. In fact, very few knew that she was sick at all until her death was announced. She leaves a husband and ten children, the youngest a baby born the morning before the mother's death. Mrs. Nobles was the wife of one of our best citizens of the firm of Nobles & Carter, and formerly sheriff of Lincoln county. Mrs. Nobles was highly esteemed and loved by all for her gentleness and christian character, a devoted wife and mother. The Ledger, together with a host of friends, extend to the bereaved husband, children and other relatives deepest sympathy in this their sad hour of lonliness and grief.. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
