I was raised in Lee County and know the Hodge family. In fact my sister in-law was married to Norris Hodge when he ran the funeral home and they lived in the old house. . Dr. Hodge, Norris's father died in the late 40's . He was a fairly young man, he was our Dr.and ate "dinner" at our house when out making house calls. The house does not resemble a ship. It has a semi circular porch, in the center you went into living quarters, with a beautiful stair case leading up to the bed rooms. on the left side was where they had caskets shrouds etc. on the right side was a chapel, with the "work" area behind this large room. Out back was a flower shop and when ' "Grandpa" Flowers owned the funeral home he acquired an unclaimed body and it was stored back there for many years. When Grandpa Flowers died his son "Doc" Flowers took over , at his death in 1961 or 62, Norris Hodge bought the place and sold it to Roller Citizen some years later. ----- Original Message ----- From: <rebelbo_25@yahoo.com> To: <ARLEE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, September 17, 2001 6:30 PM Subject: [ARLEE] dr. hodge > > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jV.2ADE/32 > > Message Board Post: > > i am doing research on an old historic building in lee county. the old funeral home on main street in marianna arkansas. i know it used to be flowers funeral home , then it was hodge funeral home, then it was roller- citizens. it is my understanding that it used to be a private residence that was owned by a dr. hodge who was a medical doctor. if anyone has knowledge about him or the building, please let me know. i am interested in knowing what style of architecture the building is and when it was built. i have been told that it was supposed to be designed to look like a steamship, thus the bow in the center. if someone in the hodge family should get this message they might could solve this mystery. > > > ============================== > Shop Ancestry - Everything you need to Discover, Preserve & Celebrate > your heritage! > http://shop.myfamily.com/ancestrycatalog > >

Makes one wonder how clear their minds were at the time they relayed this down line. lol Thanks again, I will notify if I run across any one that might be a match to the ones you named also. Donna R.
