Where there many funeral homes in Lawerence and Independence Counties around 1930-1960?Is there a way i could obtain a list of them in both of these counties? And also if one went out of business at sometime where could you find the records of the people they serviced? Leatha
My friend "Gene" looked in all the local papers for you and found nothing. You could get lucky by writing the city hall of the closest town to your ancestor. Also you know the time frame when he died so if you can get someone to research all probate, etc records for that time frame is your best bet. This would be Independence Co and the records would most likely be in Batesville, Ar. You will have to pay someone to do this but I think it would be money well spent if you find someone in that area and they know what they are doing. Gene found for me where my grandpa paid the funeral bill for someone that had died in Tucker prison. Nowhere has this name been associated with our family. I am thinking that very possibly this family "worked" for grandpa and he paid the funeral bill and they worked it off. Leatha, so many people just did not have the money back then to "make mention" in the paper of a death, but, the records are there, just finding them is the problem. If it was me I would try to find out who owned the saw mill and search his records. Just a thought.
