    3. Hi, If you will send me a name and an "about" date, I'll check the books I have on marriages (I have 3) and also the very early ones.that are online on the Lawrence CO site of Bill Couch's. If you have the name, a date of sorts and a page number, it will make your request for a copy easier for the Clerks to find. Powhatan has the microfilm of the originals but they can't copy them for you. They can however ;look up the book, the page number where you can find them. To get a copy, you either have to write to the courthouse in Walnut Ridge, (Clerks Office) or go there. If you write for a copy, be sure to include a SASE to have them send the copy to you. The last I heard they were $1.00 each or $2.00 for a certified copy. I for one am glad they are digitizing the old marriage records. There have been folks who come in to "look up" marriage records and simply cut them from the original books. I don't think they should let anyone touch the old records except the personel in the office. They aren't going to have them very long at that rate! I went to Quincy IL for copies of old records and you not only can't touch them, but they charged $7.00 each for copies. Granted, I did have them in my hands when I left the courthouse. When I saw how careful they are to preserve their records I stopped grumbling about the cost. Jeri Jeri Helms Fultz
