Dear Listmembers - I usually don't post virus alerts via the discussions lists, however there is a a virus/worm making the rounds and it is a bothersome one. First, you should not have a problem with this worm from msgs posted to these discussion lists because rootsweb does not permit attachments. This is to notify you in case you receive an attachment from an individual -- even from an address that you trust. This worm typically comes in the form of an attachment called: GONE.SCR If you get an email with this file, don't open it. Delete it immediately. This nasty worm crawls around the net looking for email addresses (usually in Microsoft Outlook). It then mails this file to any email address it finds. So, you may think you have an email from a friend, but it could be the worm !! It doesn't appear to be doing anything malicious right now, other than generating tons of email to the world, clogging up our networks, etc. If you are already infected by this worm, I don't have specific advice other than to visit Norton Antivirus, Macafee, Microsoft, and/or the internet CERT websites for guidance. I would also like to ask you not to post replies about this alert to the discussion lists. I'd rather our family research discussions not turn into a computer virus forum.
