Hi: I've been trying to find the marriage record for my great grandparents in Ark. (probably one of the Northern counties. Between years --- 1890-1895 Monroe Archy Gilbert (aka M.A. Gilbert) to: Mahala Presley (aka Mahala England) (Her maiden name was Presley, but she was married to Joel W. England until his death in 1887 - They had lived in Oregon and Howell Counties in MO) After the marriage of Monroe Gilbert to Mahala, I know they were living in Independence County, Ark. (Newark) at the time of my grandmother's birth in 1894. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks, Janice (near St. Louis)
Hi Harvey, I would LOVE to compare notes, but unfortunately, that's all of the info I have, so far, lol. Can go back a little ways on the Lakeys, but only due to the help of others. <g> Unless you're talking of more current generations of the Lakey's, then I might could help on some of that! ;o) You wouldn't by any chance be related somehow to Willie Lee, would you?? I sure hope to hear from you soon! Lots of Lovins, Huggins and Good Old Corn Squeezins! BigMomma www.ArkansasFamilies.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Harvey L. Lewis Alexander GOODWIN m Lunetta OGDEN in Lawrence Co, 22 JUN 1853. Lewis had come with his family from Jefferson Co, AL. In the 1850 Census, Lewis is 19 years old living with his parents, Wyche & Maria (stepmother)SHARP GOODWIN, in Independence Co, AR. Lunetta, apparently an orphan, is 16 years old living with 5 other siblings ranging in age from 8-21 in Strawberry Twp, Lawrence Co, in 1850. By 1860, Lunetta is a 26 yr old widow with two children under the age of two, still living in Strawberry Twp. This is the last record I have been able to find for Lunetta. Lewis & Lunetta were the parents of my ggrandfather, William Alexander "W. A." GOODWIN, who became a prominent minister in Randolph Co. Nathan BELLAH came from Smith Co, TN abt 1827. He married Mary "Polly" HUDSON, d/o of Edward and Mary WHEAT HUDSON. The HUDSON's were in Lawrence Co by abt 1817, coming from Smith Co, TN also. I believe that Nathan died in Lawrence Co abt 1837, shortly after the birth of my ggrandfather, Elba BELLAH, but I have been unable to find any record of Nathan after 1837. Would appreciate any information anyone could provide on this mystery man, including who his parents were! The 1840 Randolph Co Census indicates that Edward HUDSON had people living in his household that would be the right age and sex to be his daughter Polly and her four children. Thanks for any help! I do have the 1910 Census for him, do not know what the numbers mean, but later he died, and the obit. in the Alabama paper said he was a resident of Black Rock Arkansas and they had brought his body back on the Southern Railroad. His death date is Jan. 11, 1913. His name was William Houston Clark, his wife was Clara Lee Overton Clark and they had 4 children, Lenora, Murrary, Herbert, and Virginia. Virginia was born in Arkansas on Feb. 14, 1910. I would love to find her birth announcement or record, and/or William Houston Clarks, obit in the Arkansas paper or anything else about this family during this time. I would love info. on where to look for information for the Black Rock area. We are planning a camping trip sometime in the next month to this area, and any ideas of where to research would be great. Daniel MARTIN and Ellender AYERS MARTIN came to Lawrence Co. circa 1817, while it was still Madrid Co. Mo, I think, can't remember without paper work. One of their issues was a son name James [Jim] [M.?] MARTIN. Daniel and Ellender moved to East Texas in 1833, leaving AR in 1832. Jim stayed in AR, but later moved to East Texas then back to AR. The MARTINS were pioneers to PANOLA and RUSK Counties, TX. The history is complete here, but vague before coming to TX. They were friends of the Wyatt's and Houghs [Huffs] before TX, and after they moved to TX. Any information will be appreciated. Marilyn marilyn@tyler.net
