Hi Leann, I'm told that the "Times Dispatch" didn't begin saving newspapers until 1960 sometime You might want to check the Newspapers in Randolph Co though... The times Dispatch is online at: http://www.thetd.com/ The birth & death cert. will have to come from the Vital Records office in Little Rock. but they don't have births or deaths recorded prior to 1914. You might want to visit "Nancy's Lawrence Co. Corner" website where she has most if not all cemeteries in Lawrence Co., and she has a great search engine on the site. http://users.ritternet.com/nlmatthews You might want to check with the funeral homes in the area. I checked the cemeteries for Wm. Houston Clark and found a listing for him on this page - You might want to check the site out since it has directions to get there. BAKER CEMETERY a.k.a. Coats Cemetery Sharp County, Arkansas Blk Row Lot 5 1 6 CLARK, William H. with no dates listed. http://users.ritternet.com/nlmatthews/baker-sh.htm Use the search engine to see if his name is listed in other cemeteries. I don't know if this is your man or not. The Library has a cemetery book to check which might help you. Hope this helps. Jeri Helms Fultz O.K, we are going this weekend to Arkansas, to the Powhatan courthouse, and we are going to camp there also. What other places do I need to visit to do research on my GG Grandfather? Hi N.J. Skinner White, Brown White was better known as Henry Brown White, the son of Abram T. White and Barbary Lasley White. Abram T. & Barbary White were my gg grandparents. He is sometimes listed as Brown white, or H. Brown White or H. B. White. This is a family chart of Henry Brown White and any of these men listed could be a father of your Jeff. I do know that Jeff and his wife were not married in Lawrence Co. according to the marriage books listing from 1823-1920 and I did check the Sharp Co. "Marriage Records of Sharp County 1880 thru 1910" by Joyce Hambleton Whitten" but these are not complete and are for certain districts only. I checked the "Lawrence Co. Arkansas - Loose Probate Papers - 1815-1890" By Marion Stark Craig, MD. There were many Whites related to this same white family who resided in Randolph County, so you might want to go to that website and see what you can find. http://www.rootsweb.com/~arrandol/Links.htm You might also want to check Nancy's Lawrence Co. website and take a look through the cemeteries she has listed there. There is a great search engine on her site. http://users.ritternet.com/nlmatthews I knnow there are some White related family info listed on Bill Couch's Lawrence Co. site. Hi Karen, I just ran across your e-mail again. I finally have found the answer to who Bertie Joe Rainwater and her family were and their connections to the Rainwater family. Bertie Joe has one sister, Betty Sue Rainwater which married Barney Bryan Sellers. Without having access to the census and marriage records it makes research difficult. I still don't have who Eliza Ann Rainwater is at this time. Can you give me any more information on her or her family? To our many Helms and Davis families: Our cousin George Helms passed away April 19, 2003 in Pasadena, CA. He was an old Arkansas State College student (when I was 17 yrs old) and was always encouraged by his 2nd mother, Frances Helms who was also teacher in the Lawrence, Sharp, and Craighead counties area. George was born blind and loved teaching his "special" children. George was a "Special Education" teacher all his life. His parents were Warren Helms and Nobie Gossage Helms who died in 26 Sep 1933 Newburg, Izard Co. Ark, when George was a small boy. He is survived by three siblings, Tom Helms of Starksville, MS, Mrs. Bonnie Helms Baughman of NE Arkansas, and Mrs. Linda Ruth Helms Long of Mountain Home, AR. and a whole bunch of nieces and nephews. His sister, Wanda Helms passed away several years ago. George was a member of the Pasedena 1st Baptist Church, near his home. A memorial service was held today (4/26/03) at the church and anyone would like to remember George, a donation to the church in George Helms name would be best. Pasedena 1st Baptist Church 75 N. Merengo Pasadena, CA 91101 George was loved by all he came in contact with and especially the students he taught all these many years. They were his extended family and they loved him. George was loved and he will be missed by us all. George was the brother of Tom Helms, who many of you know. Tom and Sue have spent the past week in CA and should be home sometime Sunday or Monday. Dear List Members, It is time again for one of my information messages. First of all I want to thank each of you who go out of your way to follow the list rules. I belong to many lists in my research and truly feel you are the best list members out there. If you are enjoying this list and would like to know what other genealogical lists Rootsweb has for you, go to John Fuller's site located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html It is the best source for Genealogical mailing lists that I know of. If you would like to visit the archived messages for this list or any Rootsweb List you may go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com and type in the name of the list and from there you can search by date. There is a great Rootsweb site, Password Central, you can go to if you want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of or need to unsubscribe from a list, just follow the instructions. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ To unsubscribe from any Rootsweb list send only the word UNSUBSCRIBE to XXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM Naturally exchange the XXXX with the name of the list and the L with a D if you are on the Digest List. I have very few rules on the lists I take care of; the main one is to treat your fellow members as you would like to be treated, also Roll Calls will be called by me, with a beginning date and an ending date. The posting of virus warnings, chain letters, political announcements, current events and test messages are NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me, KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net Please remember that I am here, working behind the scenes. When an offending message is posted, just DELETE it. Know that I am most likely taking care of the problem personally with the person who posted the message. When you send your unhappiness to the list you just continue on the problem both for the members and for myself. If you are concerned that I have missed the message, you can send me a message at KathleenBurnett@earthlink.net. Would you like to see the growth in the United States between 1650 and 1983? This is a great visual. I have shared it before but I am sure we have many new members since then. http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/Animation/us.gif This is your list. I am only here to take care of it for you and to make sure it runs smoothly. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to send them to me. Jackie, I would start at the Arkansas History Commission in Little Rock. They hold the confederate records. I have found them very helpful and I believe they will be able to answer your question. If not, I'll bet they will know where to direct you next. By the way, we have "talked" in past years because I am a Gillespie and am related to many of the Gillespies in Lawrence Co. as well as McCalls, McMillens, Busters and Fowlers but so far, we can't connect to Reuben Gillespie. William STREET married Mary Ann GILLESPIE in 1857 in Lawrence Co. He served the Confederacy in the 34th Regiment of the Arkansas Infantry. I believe he must have died during the war but have no proof. Where could I find out this information? Thanks Jackie

I am researching the Sharp, Harris and Coggins connection from Madison County, Alabama. Would like to exchange what information I have on them. Bob Morrison
Hi, I'm not researching those families, but thought it was neat that I am researching the Clark family that moved from Madison County, AL around 1909-1913. I wonder if a bunch of families moved to that part of Arkansas during those years? Have you tried to trace down the Estes line from Kentucky, Tennessee and to Arkansas. I would almost bet you are connected to the Estes family that married in the the Chisum line in kentucky. A lot of the Chism and Estes migrated to Arkansas, Lawrence and Searcy, Izard and Pope counties. Elizabeth Chism married John Estes if I remember correctly. She is the daughter of John Chism and Elleanor Gillentine of Amelia county, Elleanor Chism left a land gift in Warren county, Kentucky, she named Elizabeth Estes as her daughter and mentioned 11 grandchildren of the Estes family in 1835. Chances are you are connected to this line. My Elisha Chism came to Lawrence county about 1829, he died in 1827, his wife was Wenny, they had a son named Benjamin Chism that migrated to Independence, married Polly? Walker? children Isham, Henderson, Washington, William born 1827, Elizabeth, Wenny, Thomas, James, and Elisha. I am trying to find out where Wenny died. But if you would trace this line, you may find them with the Estes family.
