    1. [ARLAWREN] From List Mom - Comcast buy out
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, If you were effected by the Comcast buy out, then you need to read this, if not delete it. Just this evening, I have receive over 100 requests for me to change e-mail address to a Comcast address. Many of these requests mention multiple lists of which the sender needs their e-mail address changed. It will take me a good week or so to get through them all. My suggestion is; If you still have the ability to unsubscribe go to PASSWORD Central at http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ type in your old e-mail address, and follow the directions. You will receive an e-mail from which you can unsubscribe. If you can't do this, then you will just need to re-subscribe with your new address and let the old one bounce off. To re-subscribe this go to John Fuller's mailing list site http://www.rootsweb.com/~jfuller/gen_mail.html or remember you can subscribe and or unsubscribe by sending only the word UNSUBSCRIBE or SUBSCRIBE to XXXXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM or XXXXXX-D-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM if you are on the Digest List. Naturally change the XXXXXX to the name of the list. If all else fails, contact me, but be understanding if it takes me a while to get to you. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    1. [ARLAWREN] Memorial Day - Lonely Graves
    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. For those of you who are visiting the cemeteries and graves of your loved ones, your ancestors this weekend and have a few extra flowers, think of placing them on one of the lonely graves which are never visited. Or, if you are living in an area where you have no one, think of visiting a cemetery and placing flowers by one of these lonely graves. I live in Logan Utah and tomorrow I will be visiting several local cemeteries and will be placing flowers on graves. Over the past years I have adopted these graves, these people and I hope that someone out there is doing the same for my loved ones. This is the day to remember those who came before us, who forged the paths that we now walk. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    1. [ARLAWREN] THANK-YOU
    2. Marion REED
    3. A big THANK YOU for those kind souls who could help me out. I have been having some fun looking at the Lawrence County websight. Nancy's Lawrence County Corners is just awesome! Nancy has been very busy and generous ! I see I have a few more spellings of my surnames to check into. I thought the TATUM seemed more likely than TATEM , but now there is a possibility it could be TATOM. I did find Sol and Bell ROGERS/RODGERS in the cemetery list- Stranger's Home. Several of their children are listed but not Earle D. ROGERS. He married Maudie (Tatom) in 1914. They had one child that I am aware of that was born in 1917. Estimating his death between 1917 and 1920 bef. her marriage to John E. SPRADLIN. Thanks again for all your help..... Tina in IL.

    3. Hi, I found a marriage for Maudie Tatom to Earle Rogers. Bk-D-324 11/27/1914.- Spradling, John (26) married Kersey, Hester (16 ) 7/13/1913 Bk-D-027 Hester was only 16 then. You need to go to Nancys Lawrence Co. Corners and search for cemeteries he might be buried in. She has a great search engine on there- http://users.ritternet.com/nlmatthews I found a few marriages in the books that the parents were listed. Some that were married in the parents home and some who needed a parents permission because of age. Marriage Records of Lawrence County may be ordered by Bk and page numbers from: Lawrence County Courthouse, Atten: County Clerk, P.O. 3. Dear List Members, The entire RootsWeb.com web site will be down for several hours Thursday morning (6/12/2003), while the technical staff completes routine maintenance. This includes the mailing lists This maintenance will take place from approximately 1-4 a.m. (Mountain Standard Time). There have been times in the past when it took much longer than planned. Watch for more information at http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi Please do not send TEST messages to the list. They will not be seen and will flood the list when Rootsweb is re-activated. I would even suggest you put off posting to the list after midnight until Rootsweb is back up and running sometime tomorrow. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

    2. Kathleen Burnett
    3. Dear List Members, It is that time of year when some of you will be leaving on vacations. You might want to consider unsubscribing from the list while you are gone and then resubscribing when you return. The easiest way to do this is by using Password Central. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ Follow the instructions and you will receive a e-mail list of all Rootsweb Mailing Lists you belong to. You can unsubscribe using this e-mail. Save it and you then have a list of mailing lists you want to re-subscribe to. When you return, you can check the Archives for this list at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ Just type in the name of the list and you can check the messages for the dates you were gone. The following was shared with me and I think it is one of the best Maps I have seen showing the growth and history of the United States. http://www.animatedatlas.com/movie.html I appreciate each of you and know that it is because of you our list is the success it is. 3. Hi Lanita, Honey, You need to spend some time in Lawrence Co.! HA I didn't find a thing in the marriages 1821 through 1920. I did find an Emmett R., Justus, George W. and James H. Justus in Bk two and some in Bk three. This stuff is on the Lawrence Co. site of Bill Couch's. http://www.couchgenweb.com/lawrence/ I have some links to the 1815-1816 Tax lists for Arkansas Territory. and they were not listed there on those dates. BUT I did check this link I have on my Lawrence Co. lookups site. http://home.earthlink.net/~jerifultz/lawlinks.html http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ar/state/history/terr/terr3.txt Arkansas Territorial Records Territorial Papers - Arkansas 1819- 1825; Part Seven, "Executive Register for the Arkansas Territory, 1819-1836. Submitted by Jerry Morrison, March 1999 --APPLIES TO MANY COUNTIES IN ARKANSAS The following was transcribed from the U.S. Government publication, Territorial Papers - Arkansas 1819-1825" pages 789-874, Part Seven, "Executive Register for the Arkansas Territory, 1819-1836". There are many errors in spelling that I noticed as I was transcribing, except in the most extreme cases, I saved the spelling printed in the book as best I could, keeping in mind that the original transcription was from handwritten documents. If at first, you don't find who you are looking for, use the phonetic method so phamilur to genealogist's. This section contains the Surnames starting with I thru M. 1827 Oct 15 Justice, Amos Lawrence-Davidson Magistrate 1827 Jun 7 Justice Sr., Amos Lawrence-Davidson Magistrate INDEX - A Through L - 1815-1835 - PROBATE - GUARDIANSHIPS - NO BONDS FOUND With each name is the numbered paragraph(s) in which the name appears in this compilation JUSTICE, Amos - 76, 77 76. JUSTICE, Amos, deceased. Bond of Charles HATCHER, administrator, March 10, 1829. Securities: Thomas Y. CRABTREE, Thornas MAXWELL. Witness: J.M. KUYKENDALL, deputy clerk. (Here we see the Sheriff, James M. KUYKENDALL, acting as a deputy clerk of Lawrence County. The law did not then forbid a person from simultaneously occupying several official positions in a county). 77. JUSTICE, Amos, deceased. Bond of John D. JUSTICE, executor of will, May 7, 1829. Securities: William JARRETT, George D. HARRIS. (Apparently, it was first thought by the Court that this was an intestate estate, but then a will was found and accepted. See no. 76 above). JUSTICE John D. - 77, 208 see above There was a Margaret Justice and a John D. Justuce listed in the 1830 Lawrence Co. Census. Page 13 Arkansas Territory. John D. Justuce 0 males) - 1 (20/40) - - females 3 (0/20) - 1 (20/40) - Margaret Justice l male 0/20- 1 female 40 plus I did find a listing in the "Lawrence Co., AR Loose Probate Papers 1915-1890, by Marion Strark Craig, MD" Justice, Amos papers are in folder of Morgan Hatcher. d,. - date not included. Adm'r: 13 March 1829, Charles Hatcher appt'd. I checked Morgan Hatcher on page 60 and it states that papers of Amos Justice here also. At least you know they were in Lawrence Co. early on. This makes pretty good documentation. Only God knows where they were married, but it was before 1821. :-) Hope this helps some. It should. Jeri

    1. [ARLAWREN] Marriage records
    2. Jeri Fultz
    3. Hi, If you will send me a name and an "about" date, I'll check the books I have on marriages (I have 3) and also the very early ones.that are online on the Lawrence CO site of Bill Couch's. If you have the name, a date of sorts and a page number, it will make your request for a copy easier for the Clerks to find. Powhatan has the microfilm of the originals but they can't copy them for you. They can however ;look up the book, the page number where you can find them. To get a copy, you either have to write to the courthouse in Walnut Ridge, (Clerks Office) or go there. If you write for a copy, be sure to include a SASE to have them send the copy to you. The last I heard they were $1.00 each or $2.00 for a certified copy. I for one am glad they are digitizing the old marriage records. There have been folks who come in to "look up" marriage records and simply cut them from the original books. I don't think they should let anyone touch the old records except the personel in the office. They aren't going to have them very long at that rate! I went to Quincy IL for copies of old records and you not only can't touch them, but they charged $7.00 each for copies. Granted, I did have them in my hands when I left the courthouse. When I saw how careful they are to preserve their records I stopped grumbling about the cost. Jeri Jeri Helms Fultz

    2. Walnut Ridge has some of the mid 1800 marriage records, and dates forward. The people in the office showed me how to look at the binder to make sure I was in the correct book. Some are "Western District" labeled. I understand that those were from Powhattan. I will be looking at your site as I noticed the names of Davis and Ferrell. I have a few Ferrell's in my tree. Some Davis' that I don't know what line they came from. Maybe hollering later at you. I'm getting sleepy and tired of computer.
