Does anyone know if there is a list of Sawmills in the Independence and Lawerence Counties from the years of 1900-1963?And if lists offer the names of employees that may have worked in them then? Leatha

My best guess is that there was only one coroner. That is still true today. He may have many deputy coroners but there is only one county coroner. Any accidental death is subject to investigation by the coroner and the local constabulary . . . whether that be police, sheriff or constable. That doesn't mean the death you are trying to verify WAS investigated, it simply means it would be worth checking with the county courthouse to see IF there is a record of the death. If things were better for me, I would volunteer to do it for you, but a very ill husband along with a son who is terminal has me tied down. It doesn't matter who the coroner was. If the coroner investigated the accident, his report was filed with the county court. Contact the courthouse in the county and request the record. ----- Original Message ----- From: "david j basco" <djbasco@juno.com> To: <ARLAWREN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, December 05, 2003 3:19 PM Subject: [ARLAWREN] County coroners > Could someone tell me who the coroner would have been for Lawerence Co > ,Ark and Independence Co,Ark between the years of 1930-1950?And how i > could contact thier records? > Thanks > Leatha > > > ==== ARLAWREN Mailing List ==== > NOTICE: Posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain > letters, political > announcements, current events, items for sale, personal > messages, flames, > etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds > for removal. > Consideration for exceptions, contact Kathleen Burnett > kathleenburnett@earthlink.net > > ============================== > To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237 >
Could someone tell me who the coroner would have been for Lawerence Co ,Ark and Independence Co,Ark between the years of 1930-1950?And how i could contact thier records? Thanks Leatha
Hi Dale,, I know this might be a stupid question but was there only 1 coroner for each county that early?By early I mean between 1930-1950? I found him still alive on a 1930 Census,,of course depending on when the Mth was in that Census,,he could have died right after the Census,,I'm just speculating here,,Do you happen to know the name of the Coroner of Independence and Lawerence Co for time frame? If it was an accidental death I think there would possibly be a coroner's report. That would be filed at the courthouse in the county where the accident occurred. The coroner would have to testify that the death was truly an accident and not deliberate. That is how I found the record of my g-grandmother's sisters death. There was even a coroner's inquest after she drowned in the creek. Good Luck! Dale H. My friend "Gene" looked in all the local papers for you and found nothing. You could get lucky by writing the city hall of the closest town to your ancestor. Also you know the time frame when he died so if you can get someone to research all probate, etc records for that time frame is your best bet. This would be Independence Co and the records would most likely be in Batesville, Ar. You will have to pay someone to do this but I think it would be money well spent if you find someone in that area and they know what they are doing. Gene found for me where my grandpa paid the funeral bill for someone that had died in Tucker prison. Nowhere has this name been associated with our family. I am thinking that very possibly this family "worked" for grandpa and he paid the funeral bill and they worked it off. Leatha, so many people just did not have the money back then to "make mention" in the paper of a death, but, the records are there, just finding them is the problem. If it was me I would try to find out who owned the saw mill and search his records. Just a thought.
