http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HST.2ACIB/205 Dear All: Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American Revolution ( DAR) and the DAR message board have established a wonderful new program for users of Rootsweb. These volunteers will do lookups in their database and records if you think one of your ancestors served in some capacity during the American Revolution. These volunteers have more databases that are available to them than the ones commonly used by the search engines. A recent check has verified that there has been at least one patriot of this family served in the American Revolution. The process to check on the details of the verified patriot or someone else that you are interested in is fairly simple : You can then also find out if others have become DAR members by using that Ancestor. This may show you other descendants ( cousins and also may provide some documentation that you may be able to use in your application! Go to the DAR message board: There are two ways to do that: www.rootsweb.com message boards topics organizations and societies DAR Or if you want the easy way :-) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar Address your message as follows: subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates In the body of the message put the information regarding the person that you are interested in. Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the new search engine will be keying on that item. Leave the email response box checked and you will be notified when the DAR volunteers respond . Give them a week or so to get to your request. We really appreciate their efforts. This info can be key for: a: joining these prestigious organizations ( DAR & SAR) b: sending a request for the copies of the files that were submitted and the information they have available. Many thanks to: Glenda Thompson DAR VIS Volunteer Vice Chrm. Patriot Lookup for organizing this effort and all the many volunteers that are donating their time and effort to us instead of pursuing their own ancestors, Best Regards John A Hansen DAR board admin. BTW: Please forward this message to other lists and boards that each of you are involved in. A word of thanks to each volunteer that does this work and especially the one that responds to your post would probably be highly appreciated. ============================== > Visit Ancestry.com for a FREE 14-Day Trial and enjoy access to the #1 > Source for Family History Online. I am researching James H. Gardner who with his family was listed on Evening Shade, Piney Fork Fed census for 1860-70, Lawrence-Sharp Co; then a dau m. a Moore (Mary Frances Gardner) and goes to Stephenville, TX; my grandfather Nathan goes along with the Goodman family to Polk Co AR but I can't locate the rest of the family or James H. and Susan Cates Gardner. James was b. in AR ab 1825 and I believe his fa was also James H. Gardner who received a 1812 land patent from N.C.and settled in AR ab 1820. It appears that James H. had married a Hannah who remarried in 1837 after his death - Hannah Gardner to Robart Lott and several siblings in this family married - John and Narcisse Gardner Lott's dau Margaret married into the Davis family ab 1862? Well, anyway, any info on the Gardner or related families is appreciated. Thank You.

Dear ListMembers - Sending what I hope will be the last word on this book for awhile. 1) The Family History book effort has had its ups and downs. Lessons learned for the next such undertaking. 2) The various mgrs of lists related to NE Arkansas will attempt to assist by posting updated information when we receive it. PLEASE don't send any of us enquiries about specific entries, mistakes, etc. regarding this book. We are not coordinating this effort. 3) My last update regarding info posted on the the web regarding Family History submissions ... indicated that the info was posted hurriedly ... is representative ... and is not accurate in quite a few cases. Ms. Waites has assured me that the Family History book does not contain the errors we see in the web pages. SO, we will wait and see. 4) Do NOT take anything on the web as factual information. ANYTHING ! Unless ... it happens to be a photo of an actual document. Even that should be scrutinized. There's a lesson here for all family researchers. 5) Feel free to discuss family research and related topics on this list (and via ARLAWREN). We want to maintain a sense of community here. 6) But, please, do NOT use rootsweb lists as a forum for personal complaints or grievances. If you are not satisfied with something, contact the responsible parties. If possible, we will assist you in connecting with the right people. If you have a problem with anything that is happening on these lists, contact me off line and I will endeavor to help find a resolution. ARLAWREN and ARRANDOL have been excellent discussion lists for many years, and listmembers both old and new are the best anywhere. Let's keep it that way. It was with regret that Tammie Chada contacted me this week to let me know that she is going to have to give up the Randolph Co., AR GenWeb site. This was a very hard decision for her, but according to her husband she has taken on to much of a load and he is concerned about her health. She is heavily involved in Oklahoma Research and is the Coordinator for the Ok Logan GenWeb Site, web mistress for the Oklahoma Cemeteries Mailing List Homepage, the co-State Archivist for the Oklahoma Archives US GenWeb Project and co-Project Manager for the Oklahoma Tombstone Project and she has a 5 year old at home. If you would be interested in taking over the Randolph Co., AR GenWeb site and have the time, talent and desire to help it to continue to develop into one of the best Arkansas Genealogy sites on the Internet, we would love to hear from you. Dear List Members, We are still trying to find someone to take over the Randolph County AR GenWeb site. Tammie Chada is having to give it up due to health reasons and her involvement, as her husbands says, in "To many projects". I don't have the ability to take it on, I was just a support person. If you would be interested in taking over this valuable site and have the time, talent and desire to help it to continue to develop into one of the best Arkansas Gena sites out there, we would love to hear from you. Yes! I do, what would you like to know? I have some old letters from this family. John Davis was living in Jackson County, IL in the 1840 and 1850s. His first wife was Mary Russell (1818-c1855) and their children were Joseph (b. c1842) and Anna (b. c1845). After Mary's death John married Ann P. and they moved to Lawrence County, AR. Their children were Archilus (b. c1855), Harriet (b. 1857), Saphronia (b. 1859), Martha Jane (b. 1862) and Delila A. (b. c1866). Joseph was killed in combat during the Civil War and I lost track of Anna. The letters I have are from Joseph during his time in the Union Army and from Harriet in the 1880s. I don't have much more on John Davis, but I have quite a bit on the Russell family. Thanks to our great List Administrator, Steve Looney, he has graciously allowed me to announce and introduce a new List and website for researchers of the area.... PLEASE do not misunderstand the purpose of this new list [some already have]... It is to HELP and be an EXTENSION of the county list, NEVER to take the place of it... An area list is not uncommon in the United States... there are many counties in other states that have several... This idea just might be uncommon for our area... For that reason, please allow me to tell you about this great opportunity to expand our researching arms.... uh, hmmm........ Ladies and Gentlemen, and children of all ages...[sorry, couldn't resist!] We are proud to announce a new mailing list for Lawrence County researchers... This new List is called OREGON COUNTY HISTORY [don't let the name throw you].. The purpose of this List is simple.... Since Oregon County, MO was much larger than its current size, this mailing list will be a regional/area mailing list that will encompass some of the surrounding counties, such as Ripley, Howell and Shannon in Missouri, and, Fulton and Randolph, and Lawrence Cos. in AR.. As most of you know, Oregon Co., MO was formed from Ripley Co., MO.. Howell Co., MO was formed from Oregon, Oregon Co. families were also found in Shannon [MO], Fulton and Randolph Cos. {AR], and of course, LAWRENCE Co. was the father of all counties [mother??].. so an area site and mailing list, we felt, was needed. Many new finds are being reported so, we don't want Lawrence historians to miss out on perhaps finding some answers to questions that have stumped them for a while... All topics pertaining to the area are being discussed and shared and are for the family researcher and history caretaker. [the topics will be broader than what is allowed on some county lists]. These topics will include census lookups online [I have the microfilms for all the census for Oregon Co. 1850-1920, all transcriptions will be originally transcribed by yours truly], as well as other census lookups for the other counties from the other subscribers; cemetery listings for any and all surrounding counties that have been shared or given permission to put online; grave and stone care [including what type of grave flowers for that red clay soil that is uncommon elsewhere in the country], and so much more... We know that families went across the line constantly, and one year they are in one census in one county and/or state, and the next in another county's census [and they might not have moved!]..... The county was much larger back then, and the state and county lines were a little hazy....thus, the need for this mailing list is obvious... We are also well aware that Lawrence County was THE county for many of the families who would later be found in the counties previously mentioned! So, we want to extend a special invitation to all Lawrence County researchers. Again, this new list in no way is meant to harm or dwindle any county's mailing list.. we want to help, not harm.. We are pointing researchers to Lawrence Co. [or the other counties mentioned] and some are becoming aware for the first time about the possible connections in those counties... We welcome all suggestions of what you want or need to see on the list. This is YOUR mailing list! We are neighbors, and yes, the other counties mentioned, received this same announcement... .Nancy Milsap will be our List Administrator for the mailing list, and yours truly [Lanita] will be the List Manager... [the List name was given by rootsweb.] We also are in the process of getting a new website that is still under construction and in its infancy It is also called OREGON COUNTY HISTORY...... Nancy Milsap especially has been busy getting it ready, and we already have some information that has been submitted that has never been used on a county website. So much is 'new' on that site, and even the average or beginner researcher will be thrilled at what is found... Basically, we're trying to combine several resources from the different counties all in one spot... All in an effort to point the historian in the area that they need to go... In addition, to the census original transcriptions from the microfilms, others also have additional resources, who have already committed themselves to share, both on the List, and on the website. So basically, if it pertains to Oregon County in the past or present, or ANY of the surrounding area, it will be 'on topic'. The List is busy, so if you don't like that, or if you are not that serious, then this List might not be for you! To subscribe to the List mode, send to MO-OREGON-HISTORY-L-request@rootsweb.com and type the word subscribe in the subject line and in the message box. If you prefer the digest mode, you will need to send the command instead to MO-OREGON-HISTORY-D-request@rootsweb.com. Hope you will join us! Lanita Sconce Miller ozarkn@southwind.net And thanks, again, Steve, for your wonderful support! Let's all work together to find those ancestors!!

Can anyone tell me how to find Census information for these counties for 1830, 1840 and 1850. I can not find any information on the 1830-40 Census. How far back do they go? Thank you, Cathleen Kennedy
I am desperately looking for information about the Canada family that was in South Carolina in the early 1800s, then in Calhoun or Benton County, Alabama in the 1830s and then onto Randolph and Lawrence County, Arkansas in the 1840s. I believe that Mary Ann Canada (Kenedy,Canady) who married Benjamin Wilson in 1836 in Calhoun County, Al may have traveled with her brother Joseph Canada?? to Randolph County Arkansa in about 1840. Please if anyone can give me any information on these families, please email me at this address or at ckenned3@twcny.rr.com. Thank you, Cathleen Kennedy
