The la grippe season seems to be here. Emmett Kimes is visiting relatives in Oklahoma. Sorry to say, Henry Huey and Sam Ripetoe, are into a lawsuit over a trifling matter. It is the wrong thing, boys. Try to settle it otherwise. Harvey Lewis and Wesley are visiting in Springdale. J E Spencer is taking pictures in Oklahoma this week. Jessie Cluck is quite sick. It is thought he has appendicitis. J L Kimes and family were poisoned this week from eating hog meat. The poison was either in the meat or in the vessel where it was cooked. The doctor was called and reported none of them serious. Will Pixley and family have moved here from Texas. Charles Oliver, who has been visiting his parents has returned to his home in Oklahoma. I am wondering how our mail carrier would feel trying to carry a half dozen 50-pound packages on muleback. Boys, when we need a sack of flour in bad weather, we will know how to get it. Look out, Uncle Billy. Mr. Dun’s family will move to Van Buren shortly. Berry Hill made a business trip to Alma this week. KIBLER KLIPPINGS J P Phillips and his son Seabe, are visiting friends and relatives in Kibler. Miss Neita Bushmier received a nice beautiful ring for a Xmas present. Christmas was quiet at Kibler. The attendance at the Christmas tree was small on account of the rain. However, it wasn’t a dry Christmas. The Misses Ruth and Lucile McCatrell are at home from school to spend the Christmas festivities with their parents. Miss Mary Kibler, accompanied by friends from Gans, Okla. spent the holidays with home folks and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Elix Price are making preparations to move to Jenny Lind. Married December 21st, Mr. Otho Crawford and Miss Flone Cromwell, Rev. Silas Haley officiating. We offer congratulations. It is now moving time in this section, and the roads are in very bad condition, but the boss says, "move when the rent comes due". Mrs. J G Crawford was somewhat indisposed the first of the week. The Kibler School resumed the even tenor of its way Monday, and after a pleasant holiday the pupils are again moving along the flowery path of knowledge. Lest we be misunderstood will say to Bennie of Graphic, that all are not married here, but there are still "golden opportunities" to be had at Kibler. Miss Walcie Johnson of the Fort Smith High School spent the past week with home folks. Jim Greig was at home from the University to spend the holidays and see after his ‘political fence" in the Oak Grove neighborhood. George Engles has again triumphed and won the plaudits of the world. He has successfully crossed the Italian bees with the lightening bug, thus providing them with light for night working. While Luther Burbank has won renown with plants, Mrs. Engles has accomplished his with insects. NATURAL DAM NEWS December 30, 1913 The bad weather still continues. Mr. Graham finds it almost impossible to get his freight ou of Van Buren. Xmas was very quiet among us but very few of our people were drunk this year. Mr. W H Chapman left Sunday for Cement, Okla., where he will visit relatives for a week or more. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Martin of Sulphur, Oklahoma, have been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carrington. They returned Monday accompanied by Mrs. Carrington and daughter, who will remain there a few weeks for the benefit of Mrs. Carrington’s health. Mrs. Delia Irwin is visiting Miss Dora Howell. Mr. S T Carrington has sold his farm to Mr. Dave Rogers of Odell, Arkansas. Mr. Lige Murphy entertained last Sunday with some good music at Wiley Murphy’s. Albert Sadler made a business trip to Natural Dam yesterday and his son Everette, today. Mrs. J H Branson and children left Sunday for Uniontown where the children will take up their studies in the Uniontown High School. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Redmon spent Saturday and Sunday with Mrs. Redmon’s parents at Odell. There was an old time dance at Bill Davis’ last week. Some of the boys reported a nice time although not a girl was present except Mrs. Davis and daughter. They danced nearly all night.
