LANTZ. NAVES said he was a tenant with his wodowed mother and sister on the farm of Uncle NEWT TURNBO,a member of one of the oldest families in Marion County. TURNBO'S cattle, running at large on the range, were being shot and TURNBO sent for NAVES and urged him to shoot four neighbors, CLARK,HILLHOUSE,JENKINS and FROST, suspected of killing his cattle. NAVES finally agreed to go on the mission. He was to go to the house of CLARK and FROST and NEWT'S son, Dr. SAM TURNBO of Oakland, was to go to the homes of JENKINS and HILLHOUSE and shoot them. CLARK was not at home and NAVES abandoned the plan and went to the place of a Mr. LANTZ to talk with him about TURNBO'S plan. He said he accidentally shot LANTZ, wounding him but not seriously. Dr. TURNBO had shot and killed a son of LANTZ,and NAVES was arrested and charged with the shooting. NAVES said TURNBO offered him money before his arrest to leave the country. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
