    3. August 1, 1906 Van Buren Argus OLDEST MAN IN ARKANSAS Grandfather Jake Crabtree, colored, of Lavaca, is in the city on his annual visit to his son-in-law, Jerry Norwood. He bears the distinction of being the oldest man in Western Arkansas or the Indian Territory and is now in his 106th year. His hair is as white as the cotton he has worked in for practically a century, yet he is active, has good eyesight, and with the exception of being slightly deaf does not appear to be more than 75 years old. He is a quarter blood Indian, and to this fact he attributes his long life and he believes the Lord will spare his life many years yet. He talking interestingly of his life and the many stirring incidents connected with it. His life has been largely spent in Arkansas and the Indian Territory, and he shows a wonderful memory, especially in matters of 80 or 90 years ago. He admits he always liked his toddy, and says that he has used tobacco for fully 100 years, but he is thinking seriously of giving up the habit, for about the close of the war of 1812 some one told him that tobacco was very injurious to one’s health, and that he has been thinking about that ever since, and is of the opinion that he ought to quit before the habit grows too strong for him. 3. Hello, Does anyone have access to "The Morrilton Democrat Newspaper"? There's an article in the 1931 newspaper about Prettyman Berry (my g.grandpa) that I'd really love to see, if someone could see clear to send me a copy of it. I would be truly grateful. Thank you! bj --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software
