I think that's because so many of them couldn't read to know when they crossed the State Line. ----- Original Message ----- From: "bj berrykeeper" <bjberrykeeper@yahoo.com> To: <ARKANSAS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 28, 2003 7:18 PM Subject: Re: [ARKANSAS] I Apologize! > And they used to be the same place.... > > fivesquirrels@sbcglobal.net wrote:Yes, let us know if you do get an Oklahoma Newspaper List. I think you underestimate these older people (who are my family and loved ones). It took alot of brains to stay alive in an area like that a hundred years ago, with no real health care, no pain relievers, no stores to go buy tools.... they pretty much had to be smart to stay alive. Some couldn't read, but most could. I believe that Arkansas had one of the first newspapers in the new country. bj fivesquirrels@sbcglobal.net wrote:I think that's because so many of them couldn't read to know when they crossed the State Line. ----- Original Message ----- From: "bj berrykeeper" To: Sent: Monday, July 28, 2003 7:18 PM Subject: Re: [ARKANSAS] I Apologize! > And they used to be the same place.... > > fivesquirrels@sbcglobal.net wrote:Yes, let us know if you do get an Oklahoma Newspaper List. They knew OK........when they emerged from the Ozarks and found flat land, they were in Indian Territory. They couldn't get more street smart than that. <GRIN> Don ----- Original Message ----- From: <fivesquirrels@sbcglobal.net> To: <ARKANSAS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 28, 2003 5:45 PM Subject: Re: [ARKANSAS] I Apologize! > I think that's because so many of them couldn't read to know when they > crossed the State Line. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "bj berrykeeper" <bjberrykeeper@yahoo.com> > To: <ARKANSAS-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, July 28, 2003 7:18 PM > Subject: Re: [ARKANSAS] I Apologize! > > > > And they used to be the same place.... > > > > fivesquirrels@sbcglobal.net wrote:Yes, let us know if you do get an > Oklahoma Newspaper List.
