This man's family is elusive in the EXTREME. Could not find him all day under any variation of the name in 1900. Are you sure he was in ARK in 1900? He was 57 in 1910 on the census -- is that age really right? If you have more on his family, I might be able to find them. I dont know what help this might be, but found his future wife, Maude in 1900 (Jerome was NOT in the same area): BTW: this matches the 1910 census stuff. McMann, Jake, b. May 1875 AR McMann, Maud, b. May 1878 Texas Earl? Dec 1895 AR Vera Dec 1897 AR Ora L. Feb 1900 AR Joseph, brother, b. 1877 Sorry I could not find this Jerome Williams (I would change my name too if it were Jerome). Note: After all this, I would rather stab out my eyes with an ice pick than search for WILLIAMS (I have one in my family way back in Tenn) RC in Texas and good luck (let me know what you find from all this)
I enjoy reading relevant county histories. I found one of Benton Co, on the Arkansas Families website and it reminded me I should post this query. :-) I am curious if anyone has any more info on the "feud" between the Reese and Pearce families in the 1870s or 80s in Benton Co. I've only found a couple of lines about it, anywhere. It occurred on or near Honey Creek and was over water rights. I assume rights to Honey Creek. It supposedly left some dead, some maimed and some running for Texas (no man's land). If anyone has any more info on this topic that they would like to share, I'd love to hear it. I would love to know what the fight was about and what part, if any, my ancestors played in it. I'd also like to know who the Reese family members were. :-) acp ******************************************************************** * A. Neither Russell or Beatty Cemeteries are listed in Benton Co, AR. Russell is no longer a cemetery -- it's a pasture. However, Beatty looks to stilll be a cemetery. It is odd. I suggest some "features" have slipped thru the cracks and no one has told them. :-) acp ------------ Bill Allen wrote: >Hi acp, > >The USGS site names 113 cemerteries in Benton Co., AR. Who is it that you're looking for in the Russell Cemetery? The Russells in Benton County married into several family lines - including the Gambles - so they may be in the Gamble cemetery. -----Original Message----- From: Bill Allen [mailto:misterbill@pdq.net] Sent: Saturday, July 19, 2003 5:36 PM To: ARKANSAS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ARKANSAS] Anyone have location for Russell Cemetery? I need a look-up by someone who subscribes to census images on Genealogy. I subscribe to the census images on Ancestry, and they do not have 1900 indexed. I am seeking the listing for Jerome N. Williams. I believe that he lived in Pope County, Arkansas. The listing should have up to two children. One was born in 1897 and one in 1899. The 1899 birth was in Russellville. The family lived in Holly Springs, Pope County, AR in 1910. The listing may be Jerome, J.N., possibly Jerry. I have no proof but think the N may have stood for Norris. Thank you in advance. Let me know if I can return the favor. Larry.
March 11, 1908 Van Buren Argus, Crawford County, Arkansas >From Wednesday’s Daily ASYLUM SCANDAL BREWING, ONE ARREST ORDERED Attorney Matlock returned home from Little Rock this morning after having attended the regular monthly meeting of the State Board of Charity. Mr. Matlock is taking the lead in investigating some very ugly charges that have been made against some of the attendants, and the public need not be surprised if a state of affairs is not developed in that institution that will cause an upheaval there before it is over. Hearing whispered reports of inhuman treatment of inmates of the asylum at the hands of the attendants and one to the effect that a patient had died from the effects of a beating given him with a heavy piece of garden hose, Mr. Matlock went to the institution and demanded to be shown a certain department and in it he found two leather straps and a heavy piece of garden hose through which a heavy cord had been run and so knotted as to leave a wrist loop on one end just as he was told he would find them. Before leaving Mr. Matlock caused a warrant to be issued for the arrest of an attendant named P M Bobo, and when he is placed upon trial it is believed tat an alarming state of affairs will be shown. I am searching for a marriage record for Ida May Paxton Barrett and John W. POWELL who were in Fogleman Twp., Crittenden Co., AR 1900 with one child born 1899. The marriage might have taken place in Crittenden Co. I appreciate any information/sources to search, etc. Fran powell@closecall.com
