Hi Fran, The source is me. I taught Native American Indian Education for five years, and I'm Cherokee. Canoe people means that they use canoes. The Wappapello were famous for their canoes. Other tribes would trade and barter for their canoes. Expert canoe builders. Some tribes are known as basket makers, some as beadworkers, some as totem builders. It's just a loose term I guess. I'll bet that if you typed Wappapello into google you could come up with something. I'm not really sure what ever happened to the tribe after they were "removed" from their land. Hi List, I could use some help in finding the marriage dates and places for 2 marriages of William Mitchell JONES. William's first wife died July 22, 1909. He then married an Alice BUNCH and a Claudia WILLIAMS. I do not not know which one was wife number 2. William was living in Independence/Marianna, Lee County, Arkansas when his first wife, Emma passed away. I have the 1920 Census which shows William married to Claudia and 3 more children since his first marriage. He was married to Claudia in 1920 and they were living in Independence/Marianna. I have a note that at one time during his marriage to Alice BUNCH, he was living in Little Rock. I have no proof of that. Just a passing note in the Jones Genealogy book, Remnants of Former Glory, page 233. William is my husband's grandfather and I would dearly love to wrap up this generation with documentations. The famous baths are all under the government control and direct supervision of the Secretary of the Interior. Free baths are provided for the poor and profits from the baths of the rich go to improve the Reservation. Just how many years this 365,000,000 gallons of the only known radioactive waters in the ground have been pouring of course is not known. Since the beginning of time, perhaps. Records, however, go back no further than 1512 when Ponce de Leon called them the Fountain of Youth, the well of living waters. They were forgotten until 1541 when they were rediscovered by Hernando de Soto, an other Spaniard and later found by the French and Canadian missionaries and called by them "the waters which keep away the hand of death". Durbar and Hunt, trappers came upon the springs in 1804, and later Manuel Prudhomme and John Perciful and Isaac Cates camped near them, renewing their health while they established hunting headquarters. In 1832 the United States, recognizing the almost magical powers of the waters and desiring to protect the health seeking public too over the springs, preserving them for all time and establishing the General Hospital for the U S Army and Navy, the greatest institution of its kind in existence. It is a town of hotels and outside of New York it is doubtful if better hotel service can be found in the country. I have been looking for Laura Morris whom family records say she married Zenith Richardson. Laura Morris' family was in Boone Co. Arkansas around late 1890's to 1900. Laura was born about 1882 in Douglas Co. Mo. to John W. Morris and Caroline Honeycutt(e). After 1900 the Morris family moved to Sequoyah Co. Oklahoma. Daughter Laura is not on the 1910 census with her family, so assuming she was married by then. Does anyone know of a Zenith Richardson? or of a Richardson family around Boone Co.
