    3. January 1, 1915 Van Buren Press-Argus Crawford County, Arkansas CHRISTMAS SAD DAY FOR ONE FAMILY One of the most distressing incidents of Christmas day in Van Buren, was the death of Mrs. J F DeArmond, who passed away shortly after 6 p m, Friday, at the Zufall wagon yard in this city. Mrs. DeArmond gave birth to an infant early Christmas morning, but it lived but a few minutes and arrangements were made to bury the little body here. The mother continued to grow worse and at 5 o’clock it became evident to the family that she had but a few hours to live, despite the medical attention that had been provided for her, and at the hour named above, she passed away and her body was taken to Hunt’s Undertaking Parlors and both hers and that of the infant have been prepared for shipment to the old home, Cherokee, Oklahoma for burial. According to the story told by the husband and father, the had been on a wagon trip through Arkansas and Southern Missouri, and were en route home when they reached Van Buren two weeks ago. Upon their arrival here two weeks ago, Mr. DeArmond was taken sick and was just recovering when the death of his wife occurred. They had spent all their means during the two weeks they had been in Van Buren, but had wired for financial aid that will permit him to take his wife’s body back home. There are 6 children in the family, the oldest being 13 years and the youngest 2 years of age. These children, following the death of their mother, were taken by Mrs. E J Riley, who while not having spare beds for them, has furnished them with a warm room in her home, fed them and clothed them as far as she could. Mrs. J R Johnson provided Mr. DeArmond with a warm coat and contributed some clothing to the children’s comfort. 3. Hey Nancy, Jonesboro, I believe. Their first born twin children, Robert Berg and Maude Ann Campbell, were born in Jonesboro in 1887. It's really the only clue I have to go on giving some sort of location. I haven't been able to find the family in the 1900 census at all. By 1909, William F. is dead. Any ideas? ~Michelle ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nancy Matthews" <nlmatthews@ritternet.com> To: <ARKANSAS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 04, 2003 8:57 PM Subject: Re: [ARKANSAS] 1886 marriage record needed in Craighead Co., Please... > Michelle, > > Do you know what part of the county they lived in? > > Nancy > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Michelle Campbell" <mmstroede@comcast.net> > To: <ARKANSAS-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, September 04, 2003 08:06 AM > Subject: Re: [ARKANSAS] 1886 marriage record needed in Craighead Co., > Please... > > > > Thanks Nancy...I looked through the index as well, and couldn't find the > > marriage. I am searching for marriage record of Ida May Paxton Barrett to John W. POWELL. On the Crittenden census of 1900, both were listed as Black race. Thanks very much. 3. From: Janice R Freeman mcdade-dna@juno.com To: ALL McDADE Descendants Announcing: McDADE-DNA Project Visit: the Sept McDade Clan Davidson home page at mcdade.bravepages.com and go to the: McDade Surname DNA Project page under Table of Contents If you have questions, contact me at McDADE-DNA@juno.com You can read more about DNA Testing through the Links at mcdade.bravepages.com or FamilyTreeDNA.com. We are inviting Y O U to participate in our McDADE-DNA Project which we are expecting to be a valuable asset to our paper trail research to show how our various McDADE lines throughout the world may be connected thru : 1. your direct participation if you are a direct line McDADE male descendant (direct male in your McDADE line all the way back to your earliest known McDADE ancestor, including yourself) by participating in the DNA testing. OR 2. your indirect participation (because you are or became a male descendant of a McDADE daughter at some point in your McDADE line OR are a McDADE daughter) by finding the fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, cousins that are direct line male McDADE descendants in your family and urging them to participate under 1. above. First, if it is at all possible, please participate in the 25 marker test as this gives us a much better analysis of the known, possible, or potential relationships. Each and every participant is an important link in connecting our various lines whether our ancestor was an early arrival in the 1600's or 1700's or a later arrival in the 1800's or 1900's in Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, USA, etc. Our ancestors may have come directly from Scotland or via Ireland, but with McDADE as the primary spelling, we are probably all cousins in one way or another. You may contact me at any time if you have questions. There is no medical connection with any of this, just a check on the male DNA markers that are passed father to son almost intact for many generations, with an occasional mutation. It is especially important to have a male participate (regardless of age) if the male is the only or one of two male McDADE descendants of a father, grandfather or great grandfather. Unfoutunately, the daughters can not do this for this particular easy, efficient, and economical test. I hope you will participate in the launching of this great project for our McDADE's everywhere. Please inform others you feel should be contacted or send me names, e-mail addresses, and or snail addresses and phone numbers for other McDADE kin. I can't wait to see how our markers reveal our potential relationships, especially if many of you will select the 25 plus marker DNA test. The fire was discovered at 3 o’clock this morning, but it was then too late to save the building, or any of its contents. Twenty three children, all girls, escaped in their night clothes. 1. [ARKANSAS] January 9, 1914 Van Buren Press-Argus
    2. Fran Warren
    3. The following is very typical of the weekly Van Buren Press-Argus Newspaper. Hope you see some of your ancestors mentioned. The old newspapers are "chock full" of these tidbits found no where else and make for some very interesting reading! Enjoy!!!! Van Buren Press Argus Crawford County, Arkansas January 9, 1914 ITEMS OF INTEREST CONTRIBUTED BY OUR "COUNTRY EDITORS" From Town and Country Kimes Notes January 8, 1914 A six inch snow has melted away. The la grippe season seems to be here. Emmett Kimes is visiting relatives in Oklahoma. Sorry to say, Henry Huey and Sam Ripetoe, are into a lawsuit over a trifling matter. It is the wrong thing, boys. Try to settle it otherwise. Harvey Lewis and Wesley are visiting in Springdale. J E Spencer is taking pictures in Oklahoma this week. Jessie Cluck is quite sick. It is thought he has appendicitis. J L Kimes and family were poisoned this week from eating hog meat. The poison was either in the meat or in the vessel where it was cooked. The doctor was called and reported none of them serious. Will Pixley and family have moved here from Texas. Charles Oliver, who has been visiting his parents has returned to his home in Oklahoma. I am wondering how our mail carrier would feel trying to carry a half dozen 50-pound packages on muleback. Boys, when we need a sack of flour in bad weather, we will know how to get it. Look out, Uncle Billy. Mr. Dun’s family will move to Van Buren shortly. Berry Hill made a business trip to Alma this week. KIBLER KLIPPINGS J P Phillips and his son Seabe, are visiting friends and relatives in Kibler. Miss Neita Bushmier received a nice beautiful ring for a Xmas present. Christmas was quiet at Kibler. The attendance at the Christmas tree was small on account of the rain. However, it wasn’t a dry Christmas. The Misses Ruth and Lucile McCatrell are at home from school to spend the Christmas festivities with their parents. Miss Mary Kibler, accompanied by friends from Gans, Okla. spent the holidays with home folks and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Elix Price are making preparations to move to Jenny Lind. Married December 21st, Mr. Otho Crawford and Miss Flone Cromwell, Rev. Silas Haley officiating. We offer congratulations. It is now moving time in this section, and the roads are in very bad condition, but the boss says, "move when the rent comes due". Mrs. J G Crawford was somewhat indisposed the first of the week. The Kibler School resumed the even tenor of its way Monday, and after a pleasant holiday the pupils are again moving along the flowery path of knowledge. Lest we be misunderstood will say to Bennie of Graphic, that all are not married here, but there are still "golden opportunities" to be had at Kibler. Miss Walcie Johnson of the Fort Smith High School spent the past week with home folks. Jim Greig was at home from the University to spend the holidays and see after his ‘political fence" in the Oak Grove neighborhood. George Engles has again triumphed and won the plaudits of the world. He has successfully crossed the Italian bees with the lightening bug, thus providing them with light for night working. While Luther Burbank has won renown with plants, Mrs. Engles has accomplished his with insects. NATURAL DAM NEWS December 30, 1913 The bad weather still continues. Mr. Graham finds it almost impossible to get his freight ou of Van Buren. Xmas was very quiet among us but very few of our people were drunk this year. Mr. W H Chapman left Sunday for Cement, Okla., where he will visit relatives for a week or more. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Martin of Sulphur, Oklahoma, have been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carrington. They returned Monday accompanied by Mrs. Carrington and daughter, who will remain there a few weeks for the benefit of Mrs. Carrington’s health. Mrs. Delia Irwin is visiting Miss Dora Howell. Mr. S T Carrington has sold his farm to Mr. Dave Rogers of Odell, Arkansas. Mr. Lige Murphy entertained last Sunday with some good music at Wiley Murphy’s. Albert Sadler made a business trip to Natural Dam yesterday and his son Everette, today. Mrs. J H Branson and children left Sunday for Uniontown where the children will take up their studies in the Uniontown High School. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Redmon spent Saturday and Sunday with Mrs. Redmon’s parents at Odell. There was an old time dance at Bill Davis’ last week. Some of the boys reported a nice time although not a girl was present except Mrs. Davis and daughter. They danced nearly all night. 2. Michelle Campbell
    3. Howdy! Does anyone have access to the 1886 marriage rolls for Craighead County? I'm looking for the marriage between William F. Campbell and Rose Ada Gibson. Especially interested in the date of the marriage and the grooms parents. William F. Campbell died on May 12, 1909 (so tried to get parent's name through a death record) but I was told that records weren't kept in AR for deaths that early. I would deeply appreciate any help...Thanks. ~Michelle
