    1. Re: [ARKANSAS] HALLMARK COPELAND TEAGUE
    2. I have been searching for the parents of my greatgrandmother (Sara HannaCopeland/Hallmark) I do have information on my greatgrandfather he was easy to trace. My greatgrandmother apparently came from nowhere. Since my greatgrandfather was born in Ark and they lived there in 1930 I thought Ark would give better results than Ala has given. Thank you for your time. Barb The following is the only information I have. 1900 Census: - Lathamville, DeKalb Co. AL; E.D. 75 page 180 Copeland, Sarah H., sister inlaw; born Aug. 1883, age 16, AL AL AL was living with James and Mary E. Teague (Mary born 1874). There was an Alexander Copeland and family living nearby. I cannot connect Alexander to Mary E. and Sarah H. (DeKalb Co. is next to Etowah Co.) 1910 Census: - Altoona Twp., Etowah Co. AL, 15 April 1910, enumeration district 79; sheet 1B Hallmark, Jesse, 27, 1st marriage; married 7 yrs., born in AR and parents in AL; Coal Miner Sarah H., 27, 1st marriage; 4 children with 3 living; AL AL AL Eunice P., 6, AL Jesse F., 3, AL Eula M., 1 2/12, AL( ) 1930 Census: - Illinois Twp., Pope Co. 3. Michelle: Very good of you to let us know about your indirect Langford connection. If you know any Langford/Lankford men please advise them of this project. If their wives, sisters, or mothers are doing genealogy research let them know too, since they can benefit from this project if the menfolk donate the DNA. In the meantime, I will add your family group to the Langford family file in order to pin down Marion Langford/Lankford Thank you for sharing your information. 3. Now there's a name I can recognize. My Rose Ada Gibson-Campbell married a Marion Lankford/Langford in Craighead County, AR around 1919. It was her second marriage after her husband, William F. 1. Re: [ARKANSAS] Littrell Family
    2. Carol are any relation to this line of LITTRELL?? Marva Carpenter Yarrell I have e-mailed John & Stacy Littrell numerous times within the past several months, but have received no response. Source: Marva L. Carpenter & Ed Gray Copy of the 1870 Princeton Township, Dallas County, Arkansas Census has a KALLUM HARRISON, age 64 residing at Dwelling house 43, Family number 40. It is my belief that this Kallum, son of George Harrison, is the same as Kenelm listed in George Harrison's will. Also enumerated with Kallum is Virginia, white female, age 39, keeping house; Fletcher, age 18 white male, farm laborer; William A. age 13, white male; LUCY LITTRELL age 32, white female. In a telephone conversation with Thurman Harrison, Sr. on August 2, 1999, he stated that Grandpa Ed Harrison cooked for William Harrison until he became disabled. After that Ed went to live with his daughter Cattie Harrison-House. It is my theory that the son of Kallum Harrison, William A. Harrison, was the white person that Ed Harrison cooked for. Source: Thurman Harrison, Sr. and Marva Carpenter In addition, the same 1870 census lists a SAM HARRISON, age 40, black male, farm laborer at Dwelling 39, Family number 37. Enumerated with Sam Harrison is Ava age 20 keeping house; Archer or Arther age 18, farm laborer; Edwin age 14, black male; Adaline age 12, black female; Helen age 10, black female; Jane age 5, black female; and Cicero age 2, black male. It is my theory that the Edwin Harrison enumerated with Sam Harrison is my great grandfather since his age corresponds with his known birth date. I have concluded this because Sam and the persons enumerated with him are in close proximity to Kallum Harrison the white slave owner. Customarily, the slaves of the white slave owners often farmed land nearby their former slave owners after the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves. Could Sam Harrison be the increase of the slave Chaney who was willed to Kallum by his father George Harrison? Or could Sam be the increase of Kallum's others brothers' & sisters' slaves? At the present time I have no documentation to prove this theory since the Littrells will not answer my inquiries. Source: Marva L. Carpenter

    3. It appears that drug addiction is nothing new, as can be seen by the following news item in the January 8, 1915 Van Buren Press Argus newspaper of Crawford County, Arkansas: DR SKELTON’S CONDITION STARTS INVESTIGATION The mental condition of Dr. W W Skelton of Fort Smith has developed one of the saddest cases resulting from the drug habit ever reported and will probably result in the prosecution of one or more of Fort Smith’s druggists who supply the unfortunate victims of morphine and cocaine habits with the drug that wrecks them mentally and physically. It is now believed that the entire family had become addicted to the drug habit and that the accidental shooting of the nine year old son and death of their two weeks old babe was due to the use of the drug. The members of one drug firm have been placed under arrest and their hearing will probably throw a new light upon the use and sale of morphine in Fort Smith, for their use has been almost as wide spread among a certain class in Fort Smith, as that of whiskey. Hope this helps someone Dortha BATESVILLE GUARD DAYS GONE BY 16 Aug. 1907 A trial at Yellville, Which attracted wide interest in North Arkansas, resulted in acquittal of BILL NAVES on a charge of assault to kill I.N. LANTZ. NAVES said he was a tenant with his wodowed mother and sister on the farm of Uncle NEWT TURNBO,a member of one of the oldest families in Marion County. TURNBO'S cattle, running at large on the range, were being shot and TURNBO sent for NAVES and urged him to shoot four neighbors, CLARK,HILLHOUSE,JENKINS and FROST, suspected of killing his cattle. NAVES finally agreed to go on the mission. He was to go to the house of CLARK and FROST and NEWT'S son, Dr. SAM TURNBO of Oakland, was to go to the homes of JENKINS and HILLHOUSE and shoot them. CLARK was not at home and NAVES abandoned the plan and went to the place of a Mr. LANTZ to talk with him about TURNBO'S plan. He said he accidentally shot LANTZ, wounding him but not seriously. Dr. TURNBO had shot and killed a son of LANTZ,and NAVES was arrested and charged with the shooting. NAVES said TURNBO offered him money before his arrest to leave the country. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    1. [ARKANSAS] Info: Obituary Daily Times
    2. Carolyn Flowers Tucker
    3. Because I have posted a lot of the SWEEDEN & all name variations Obit info from this site to the SWEEDEN list & had wondered how to obtain copies, I found this info helpful, hope ya'll do too. I plan to join. Carolyn P.S. My compliments to the AR List manager Diane, she has to be the best list manager I have come across in my 7 yrs! I have been on a bunch of lists in that short time & We are ~very~ fortunate to have her over our Arkansas list! Thanks Diane! The Following Info is From the website: http://www.rootsweb.com/~obituary/ The Obituary Daily Times is a daily index of published obituaries. It is distributed FREELY, often twice a day by email, and usually has over 2500 entries a day. You can search the database anytime with the search engine below at the website. The Obituary Daily Times mailing list is intended mostly (but not only) for Family Historians, researchers and compilers (ex. researching all of ONE FAMILY). The Obituary Daily Times is an index of published obituaries across the world. Regular contributors (volunteers) can request information about particular obituaries between themselves. They DO NOT HAVE THE ACTUAL OBITUARIES. Regular volunteers may request a particular copy from each other. For others, GEN-OBIT is an easy way to find a publication date of an obit. You can then refer to the newspaper to get a copy of it (at the library or directly with the newspaper itself). TO SUBCRIBE You can subscribe through email Rootsweb by sending a message to: GEN-OBIT-L-request@rootsweb.com no subject is needed. In the body of the note write the single word: Subscribe (Please turn off any signature lines that you may be using when writing to this address. The autorobot does not recognize them as such and may not process your request to join). Please note that if you are using JUNO, or other similar email only service, please DO NOT send a message to Rootsweb. Instead, send one to Walter Styles  wstyles@erols.com and ask him to add you to his Juno list. Our daily message is much larger than JUNO will accept through the listserve. Instead, we at The Obituary Daily Times maintain our own mailing list for JUNO subscribers and send out the mailing in smaller pieces that Juno will accept. HOW TO BECOME A CONTRIBUTOR Being a contributor implies a few very simple tasks:   a) Submitting an index of your local paper's obituaries   b) Occasionally answering a query for more information on an obituary you have indexed. (You should keep the obituaries for at least a 90 days after they appear in The Obituary Daily Times). Queries are answered via email. This means typing the obituary in it's entirety and emailing it off to the requestor. And then you will have access to obituary information across the world! For training contact Gene Ulrich; ulricher@hotmail.com with the name of the newspaper and state, and one of our trainers will be in touch with you soon.
