Van Buren Press-Argus November 26, 1915 WHO KNOWS THIS OLD CONFEDERATE SOLDIER? Pine Bluff, Ark., October 25, 1915 Major E B Jett, Little Rock, Ark. Dear Sir: Will you kindly let me know if you have any record of an old Confederate Solider named Frank Sweatt? My father, A W Sweatt, has a brother by that name somewhere, if not dead, and when last heard from just after the war, was in this state near Fort Smith and my father is now 71 years old and would like to locate his brother if possible. We have made inquiries in a number of states but have failed to locate him. As a son of one who fought for the grand old South, I assure you that I would be glad to have you service in trying to locate this lost brother and if possible bring them to a happy reunion before death shall call them to their reward. I will be glad to reward you for any and all services that you will render on this behalf. Yours truly, (Signed) A W Sweatt, Jr. Fran Alverson Warren e-mail: alverson@valuelinx.net 479-369-2703 http://www.crawfordcountyarkansas.net/

Hello Everyone: Those of you who are working on your lines back to your 1600s American Ancestors will find the1600s Ancestors Data Base to be of great help. My recent posting updates to the Data Base has taken it to over 26,500 Ancestors who have descendants living today. I have also added several National Societies who have proven many of these Ancestors. Also at this time a few new respected Reference works that contain thousands of sources including some of the early colonists who have Royal Blood lines. All the entries are coded to indicate to which reference work or which National Society has at least one of their proven lines. Several of the National Societies have over 20 different lines from a single Ancestor. When you enter the 1600s Ancestor Data Base be sure to look at the top of each data page for the link that takes you to the "Data Base Information Page" Here you will find the codes and references listed and how to use them. This is must reading to understand the Data Base. We are constantly updating the Data Base with additional Ancestors added as time permits. You will find the 1600s Ancestor Data Base at: http://www.firstfamilies.org/db/ Everyone has FREE access to all our web site and the reports contained there. Enjoy and Happy Hunting Ryan Jackson Data Base Manager America's First Families
So many have loved this particular poem. I wanted to share it with any who haven't seen it yet. MY ANCESTOR GRAND MOTHER I search for you yet do not even know your name I press on praying my efforts will prove fruitful the records do not list you or the other women who have lived and loved and laughed, gave birth, and died, the records perpetrate the myth that you were never here but I stand whole and bare my soul and vow to find you as I live I search for you in old records, in churches, at the Embassy, in small dimly lit rooms in the back of obscure libraries and archives and pour over barely readable handwritten ledgers with magnifying glass and flashlight I live on mainly toast these days there isn't time for meals or much sleep feeling as I always do, on the very brink of discovery Perhaps THIS will be the day I find the one seemingly insignificant clue, which will lead me to you although I did not find you listed in the Census Records I am not deterred, you may turn up yet, on an Immigration or Naturalization list somewhere perhaps, or maybe tucked away inside some bank of vital statistics, long forgotten like so many others, your name having become lost over the long years Your name could be lying even now amidst the millions of documents stored and locked away safeguarded in the bowels of a giant warehouse all stopped up from apathetic crowds who have long ceased their visits your precious name, lying just inside a myriad of records packed in tight, packed in to stay never guessing I would come My Poetry Website is at; (Gen and other poems) http://users.rosenet.net/poetryandroses/ My Genealogy Website is at; (check for your surnames) http://www.gaia.edu/genclass/srose/

Van Buren Press-Argus October 1, 1915 HIS WANDERINGS ENDED A F Larkin, the aged white man who was brought to Van Buren early in August, at which time it was believed that he was demented, but later developed that he was sick, died in the county jail at 6:30. The remains were turned over to Coroner Hollenbeck, who had them interred in the Gill Cemetery this afternoon. Sheriff Branson made an effort to find some of the man’s relatives, but without success. He had only been in the county a few weeks, but his condition was such as he cold not be turned out and was kept there until his death this morning. Larkin was a homeless wanderer and drifted into Crawford County during the peach picking season. A NEW MODEL TYPEWRITER The Oliver No. 9! Buy it NOW!!! Yes, the crowning typewriter triumph is here! It is just out- and comes years before experts expected it! For makers have striven a life-time to attain this ideal machine. And there is truly no other typewriter on earth like this new "Oliver 9". Think of touch so light that the tread of a kitten will run the keys. CAUTION! The new-day advances that came alone on this machine are all controlled by Oliver. Even our own previous models-famous in their day-never had the Optional Duplex Shift. It put the whole control of 84 letters and characters in the little fingers of the right and left hands. And it lets you write them all with only 28 keys, the least to operate of any standard typewriter made. Thus writers on all other machines can immediately run the Oliver No. Nine with more speed and greater ease. WARNING! This brilliant new Oliver comes at an old time price. It costs no more than lesser makes-now out of date when compared to this discovery. For while Oliver’s new features are costly, we have equalized the added expense to us by simplifying construction. Resolve right now to see this great achievement before you spend a dollar for any typewriter. If you are using some other make, you will want to see how much more this one does. If you are using an Oliver it naturally follows that you want the finest. 17 CENTS A DAY! Remember this brand new Oliver "(" is the greatest value ever given in a typewriter. It has all the previous inventions-visible writing, automatic spacer, 6 ½ ounce touch- PLUS THE OPTIONAL DUPLEX SHIFT, SELECTIVE COLOR ATTACHMENT and all the other new-day features. Yet we have decided to sell it to everyone everywhere now on our famous plan: 17 cents a day. Now every user can easily afford to have a world’s crack visible writer with the famous Printype, that writes like print, included free if desired. TODAY-WRITE FOR FULL DETAILS and be among the first to know about this marvel of writing machines. See why typists, employers and individuals everywhere are flocking to Oliver. Just mail a postal at once. No obligation. It’s a pleasure for us to tell you about it. If you would list the SS #, someone will help. Otherwise, no one will have the means to help. I dont think identity theft is a problem in this case. RC
Go to the Social Security Death Index to see if you can do a search by the SS # Joyce Gaston Reece ----- Original Message ----- From: Recail Foley To: ARKANSAS-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thursday, October 30, 2003 12:25 PM Subject: [ARKANSAS] question Help, i have a ss# number that will not pull up of someone who died in 1985. Someone once told me that if the parents or surviving family of the deceased did not make a claim against the SS department for that survivor benefit of 200 or whatever it is now, that the name won't be on the list. That may or may not be true, but it's a thought. Another thing you could try is to search by date and place of residence at death. Terri -----Original Message----- From: Joyce G.
