    1. [ARKANSAS] Newspapers at History Commission
    2. Janet Cook
    3. Good evening, everyone, I am wanting to order some obituaries from the History Commission but their order form wants the roll number of the newspaper where the obit is located. I have the newspaper, date, page, and column - but I don't know the roll number. How does one locate the roll number for the newspapers? What are my chances of getting the obits without the roll numbers? Thank you, Jan Cook

    1. [ARKANSAS] Re: Census Lookup for S. Chappel and Green
    2. I am looking for info on my g-grandparents Juda Caroline Chappel and Robert B. Green. They were married in Logan Co. AR in 1878. He was previously married to a Mary ? and they had several children, Mary E., b abt 1866, Jesse F. b 1872, Feraba Joda b 1874, Sarah L. b 1875, and Rena A. b 1877. From some of the info which I have received from family members I believe that Mary ? and Juda may have been sisters or at least cousins. The mother of Mary ? was Susannah Money Chappel, I found record of the marriage bond for her and Harrison Chappel in NC, Surrey Co. 8/31/1835, Census index , Harrison Chappel 1840 NC, Surrey Co. pp123, found nothing for 1850. Then found census index for S. Chappel, 1860 ARK, Franklin Co. Prairie Twnsp. pp393. Robert B. Green, 1870 ARK, Randolph Co. Marble Twnsp. pp533 I would greatly appreciate if someone could look at the census for the above. Mabel from Calif.

    1. [ARKANSAS] Davis/Triplett
    2. Lillie Fort
    3. Hello everyone, Trying to find information on Ely Davis, who married Julia Ann Triplett. Their children; Ernest Lorenzo Davis was born somewhere in Arkansas 23 August 1908, and his brother, Jessie Davis was born in Leflore County, MS on 19 March 1906. These dates would indicate that they lived in Leflore County before moving on to live in Arkansas prior to the birth of Ernest. I have no information on Ely Davis, other than his name, which I found on the death certificate of Ernest and the social security application of Jessie. I'm stumped as to what to do next in trying to determine what happened to this man. I don't know if they were divorced or he died, but Julian Ann later married Ruben Campbell,( don't know what happened there either) and they had 3 sons; then she married Clarence House, (who was my grandfather), and they had 5 more children, of which my father was one. Could someone direct me in what path to take in uncovering more about Ely Davis? Thanks for any help! God bless, Lillie in California

    3. I am trying to locate information on Elmer Morris, he is/was the son of Albert B. Morris and Elizabeth Beard McKinsy Morris. I am told that he was living in Little Rock in 1946. Would anyone have access to City Directory or Telephone Directory that would show if he was listed. Maybe even some later years. Have no idea when or where he died. Or if he had a family. He was born between 1881 and 1890. Thanks for your assistance. Jackie Morgan

    1. [ARKANSAS] Obits
    2. Hi List, I am looking for someone in Boone County to look up obituaries for the following. I am trying to find descendants that may be mentioned in the obits. Willing to pay someone to do this. Andrew Samuel Arthur b. 4/16/1874 d. 7/12/1919. Andrew was shot and killed. It was a homicide. I'm sure there would have been an article, as well an obit in the paper. James Nathaniel Arthur b. 7/30/1847 d. 1/16/1939 George Arthur b. 12/9/1887 d. 7/16/1920 Henry Arthur b. 3/5/1882 d. 9/13/1920 Henry was in W.W.I. Three of them died within a year. I would appreciate it very much if someone would help me. Respectfully yours, Jan, in Indiana

    1. [ARKANSAS] WILLIAMS lookup request
    2. Does Arkansas have a comprehensive death index such as the one published in Texas? Looking for information on Jerome N. Williams, born AL, 1859, who may have lived in Arkansas. He was living in Bowie County, Texas, in 1920, and was mentioned in the obituary of his brother who died in 1935. He lived at DeKalb, Texas, as the time. Married to Carrie Bloodworth who died September 27, 1934, in Bowie County, Texas. I have been unsuccessful at locating death information on Jerome or where he lived in 1900 or 1910. He was living in Phillips County, AR in 1880. Thanks for any information you might provide. Larry in Texas

    2. Wendy, Pertaining to railroad pensions. The Source, a guidebook for genealogy states that Railroad workers of the twentieth century received special Social Security numbers (the first three, or area, numbers 700-729 until 1964) and their own pension plan. A ancestor who received a pension from certain railroad lines should be on record at the Railroad Retirement Board, 844 N. Rush St. Chicago, IL 60611-2092 The board is very helpful in answering requests for information if you can provide the employee's name, postion, the railroad worked for, and where and when employed. There is a fee for a search, whether successful or not. p. 346 under Business, Employment, and Institutional Records. ***p. 646 The Source Tracking Twentieth Century Ancestors Nine types of records maintained by the Railroad Retirement Board. 1. employee's death certificate 2. application for employee (age and service) annuity under the railroad retirement act. 3. Description and certification as to eligibility of evidence submitted. 4. Certification in support of employer service for which no records are available. 5. Application for employee annuity under the Railroad retirement Act. 6. employees statement of compensated service rendered 7. Record of employee's prior service 8. Employee registration 9. Employee's certificate of termination of service and relinquishment of rights. In the 1960's, the board initiated a policy approving destruction of individual files thirty years after the last payment is made to the claimant or any beneficiaries in accordance with federal record retention schedules. The destruction was put on hold after genealogists protested. A decision regarding future retention or destruction had not been made as of late 1995. (The Railroad Retirement Board does not maintain personnel or retirement files of former Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway employees who died prior to 1970. the accessibility and retention of railroad personnel records varies from company to company. Museums and historical societies often house records of local or regional railroads. p. 677 The Source -Tracking Urban Ancestors, states Rail transportation workers may be traced through corporate archives, union records, or government agencies. The Newberry Library in Chicago has manuscripts from the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy R.R. and some from the Pullman Standard Care company. It also states that the Railroad Retirement Board did not begin operations until the mid 1930's.. Hope this helps some Patricia L. Hall [email protected]

    3. Yes, Historic Texas Cemeteries will have a directory for TX Cemeteries soon, over 29,000 cemeteries will be listed with references of where to find more information about them. Symbols will let you know if that cemetery has an inventory or not. Should cut Internet research by 70%. Due to be on line before Christmas. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~txcemeteries/ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roger D Sims" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, December 06, 2000 8:03 PM Subject: [ARKANSAS] Website any body have some good genealogy links that i can put on my web site? email me.. www.simsfamily1.homestead.com/SIMSPAGE.html -- Keep On Searching ==== ARKANSAS Mailing List ==== ListAdministrator of Arkansas-L Patricia L.
