    3. March 9, 1904 ELECTRIC LIGHTED TRAINS In discussing the Iron Mountain improvements this morning with General Superintendent Tyler, he stated that on last Thursday the company signed a contract with a St. Louis firm to equip every passenger coach on the system with electric lights, and as fast as the cars could be run into that city they would be equipped and sent back to their respective lines. The passenger coaches will have from 60 to 70 incandescent lights, for beside the three cluster lamps each seat will be supplied with a small light. The Pullman cars to be used on the Missouri Pacific will be similarly lighted, each berth to be supplied with two lights, besides an adjustable electric fan, thus assuring the traveling public every possible convenience. Each car will contain a storage battery sufficient to supply all of the lights and fans for 12 hours. When asked concerning the installation of the fast passenger train from Kansas City to Little Rock, Mr. Tyler stated that would be settled when they met to arrange their World’s Fair train service, which would be in a short time. 1. [ARKANSAS] February 3, 1904 Van Buren Argus
    2. Fran Warren
    3. Van Buren Argus, Van Buren, Crawford County, Arkansas February 3, 1904 Fort Gibson, Indian Territory, January 27.- John West, Captain of the Indian Police, with a squad of ten picked men, passed through here tonight on his way to the Greenleaf Mountains, where the Keetoowahs are concentrating. People arriving here from Braggs report a big bunch of Indians gathering there. A part of seven hunters from here is in the Greenleaf mountains. The last time the men were heard from they were in the section surrounded by the Indians. During the last three days it has been impossible to hear from them. So far no murders have been reported, but the Indians say they are gathering to "clean out" the half-breeds, who, they say, have been aiding the government in the allotment of lands. If Captain West does not locate the party of hunters before morning a posse of men will be sent out to reinforce him. 1. [ARKANSAS] *NEW* USA Passport Registers 1829 to 1887 online
    2. Lorine McGinnis Schulze
    3. Hi Everyone, I've just uploaded Surnames C, D, E, F & G to the online "Index to Special Passport Applications USA 1829 to 1887" on NaturalizationRecords.com website at http://naturalizationrecords.com/ Passports were granted to citizens of the United States going to foreign countries. Passports were granted to those satisified the requirement that they be "entitled to receive them" Special passports were issued to US diplomatic and consular officers, military attaches, secretaries of legations, and other government officers and their families A big thank you to volunteer transcriber Cindy Lewis for her continued hard work on this Passport Project. As well as the surnames added today, Surnames A & B are online for all to use freely. I will be adding new surname letters as they are ready to go online. You can begin your search at Surnames A at http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/passports1829- 87a.shtml This URL may wrap to 2 lines. If so, either copy and paste BOTH lines (no spaces between lines!) into your web browser Let the page load, then scroll down to see the list of names. Be sure to read the intro so you know how to get the full record! Near the bottom is a menu to follow for choosing the other surname letters If you have trouble getting the long URL to work for you, start at http://naturalizationrecords.com/usa/passports.shtml Scroll down to the text that begins "Online Passport Records" The second choice is "Index to Special Passports 1829-1887 an Index for all states in USA [NEW! on NaturalizationRecords.com] " That is where you will click to view the list of names. I have other passport applications and registers, some are online, others still need volunteer transcribers: Register of Passports from 14 November 1834 to 1843 an Index for all states in USA [NEW!] Index to Special Passports 1829-1887 an Index for all states in USA [NEW! ] Index to Special Passports 1872-1882 [needs a transcriber] Register of Passport Applications 1809-1817 [NEW!] Index to Passports 1830-1831 [needs a transcriber] Index to Passports 1850-1852 [needs a transcriber] As always, all records on NaturalizationRecords.com are free for all to use. If you want to pass this note on to others, please do. Enjoy! 1. [ARKANSAS] Possible Resource for List
    2. Web Champ
    3. To all... I recently found an item on the following webpage that looks pretty interesting: http://www.kinseeker.com/id11.html . It's a "Southeastern States Resource Guide" with links to quite a few general and state-specific genealogical resources. Take a look and see what you think. I also recently posted this to the Washington DC mailing List at WashingtonDC-L@rootsweb.com , so if you read/post to that list, you may not want to email for another copy. I will also be posting this to other mailing lists for the southeast. Thanks!

    1. [ARKANSAS] Will do 1860 Census index lookups
    2. Rex Bertram
    3. Hi all. I recently got the 1860 AR census index. I am willing to do lookups. Please limit your requests to 2, as I know I will get tons of requests. Please send requests directly to me at rexwb@insightbb.com so that we don't clutter the list with these lookup requests. Be sure to include "1860 AR Census lookup" in the subject line. Also, do NOT ask me for all of a particular surname. I need first and last name of person to look up. The index is by head of households name, so I need the name of the person who would be listed as head of household. 1. [ARKANSAS] Mrs. James Allen Smith (nee Travis Whitaker)
    2. Elizabeth Whitaker
    3. I am a great-niece of the late Mrs. James Allan Smith, who was born Travis Whitaker. She died about 20 years ago in Arkansas. I don't know where. (I don't believe I actually met her, except when I was three years old.) She was an older sister of my paternal grandfather, L.R. Whitaker. Travis was born in South Carolina in 1897. (I am one of Buddy's daughters.) I would like very much to get in touch with her descendants and exchange family information, especially copies of family photographs. I have information on our mutual branch of the Whitaker family that no one else may have. Elizabeth Whitaker whitaker@innova.net
