I am looking for any documents related to the marriage, death, or burial of James Aaron Moore and his wife Mary Estella (Humes). They resided in Batson as of the 1880 census and were supposedly married 18 Sept 1879 in Johnson Co. James is listed as a farmer, but may have been a travelling preacher. They had 4 children, all born in Johnson Co. Mary is said to have worked at a hotel or hotels in Ft Smith as a maid or doing laundry. They both died in Ft Smith on 11 Jun 1899. Mary was shot by James in a local cemetery, then shot himself. It is possible that James was institutionalized for mental illness prior to the incident. Any info or where such people would have been placed might be helpful. They were buried in a cemetery in either Johnson or Franklin Co. I'm assuming it's Johnson, but I have also heard Franklin mentioned as a burial location. There is mention of them in the Johnson Co Historical Society Journal Oct. 1979. If anyone has that text, I would love to see it before I purchase it. If anyone has the property tax info from 1890, he might be in there. That info would be great as well. My goal is to verify the dates I currently have, as well as find information regarding James parents/family, supposedly from Circleville, OH. I don't require any information on his wife's (HUMES) family. Any little piece of information would be extremely appreciated. My grandmother has been working on this the old fashioned way off and on for probably 40 or 50 years. Thanks, Brian Moore
