Brief land descriptions are also on the Johnson County site at: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/ar/johnson/land/johnson.txt This has the entries I mentioned, but of course you either have to order the papers or wait for them to bring the system back on line. In any case, because they are Cash Entry, there is no great expectation of any additional info, other than perhaps a middle name, depending on the clerk who filled out the ledger. (Homestead applications are a different story, since they have justifications for the grant. Pity he didn't have any here. You might look in his previous residence county/state for this type of information as well.)

All of the microfilm used is available for loan through the Mormon Family History Centers (the LDS numbers). All of this could have been accomplished at the History Commission, but it took some random associations to find it all. Just a normal day's research - expect nothing and go from there. I was looking for something else when I noticed the name and remembered your post.
I've noticed that there was a discussion about sawmills going on. I was wondering if anybody has or could have a list of people who were working in them in the early 1870's. I'm trying to verify that my gr-gr-grandfather William H. Gardner was working at one as a family story has said. Rachel

There is no way I can ever thank you enough for all the hard work and wonderful information you've provided. My brain is spinning at the possibilities that arise from the information. Did you find the information at the library or did you search the courthouse records? I'm still considering making a trip to Johnson Co., even if it's nothing more than to gather copies of the information you sent. Thank you so very much, Sandra
