I live in Hummelstown, PA. My PA-German ALLAM (generally AHLUM) family is from the Bucks County, PA immigrant. There is one other ALLUM group in Western PA wherefrom I do not know. Its a long story but my ALLAMS have been difficult to connect because my great-great grandfather, Aaron's first family all but died out and he remarried. I'll briefly outline it in case any potential relatives in Johnson County are interested: Aaron's parents, Henry and Sarah (STEVER) AHLEM appear in the 1850 census for Bethlehem, Northampton County, PA. The names are difficult to read--but there is a Wm. About 1995, Pat Perry, of Ojai, CA, contacted me to say that William, one of Henry's sons, left PA, migrated to Alabama, and served for the Confederacy. I sent her whatever I had but never heard from her again. I've had recent success in piecing Henry and his descendants together. I found William in the 1880 Census for Shelby Iron Wo! rks, Shelby County, Alabama. That Census says that he and his parents were born in PA. The Alabama Archives recently confirmed that all four entries for William ALLAM (or ALLUM) for the 3rd Alabama Cavalry are him. He's at Selma, Dallas County, AL in 1860 and at Columbiana, Shelby County, AL in 1870. In 1900, he is in Johnson County, AR. I found index entries for Barbara Fern, Bedford F, Carl, Lena, William R Sr, and W.R. Jr for pages 26 and 43 of the Apr 1995 Johnson Co Historical Society Journal. And there was a record for Mary A and/or Mary Ann on pages 46, 48 and 52 of the Apr 1985 Journal. Your response gives me much of that--and he had a son Forrest in Alabama which ties. In addition, you provide the maiden name of William's wife. This is the only known instance of anyone in my genealogy serving in the Confederacy and is most interesting. I'll have to check for those pension papers. Meanwhile, I'm searching for the marriage of William and Mary in Alabama th! at your information will help tremendously. Hopefully, either the pen sion or marriage record will confirm him as Henry's son. Their other children (all born in Alabama) were Alberta, b 1869; Caroline M, b 1871; Henry C, b 1876; and Mary E, b 1878. The Wm ALLAM in Bethlehem, PA in 1850 was a brick mason and, of course, the Bethlehem Iron Works later became the Bethlehem Steel Company. So I find it interesting that he was a brick mason at the Shelby Iron Works at Columbiana, Shelby County, Alabama in 1880. I descend from William and Elizabeth (REMALY) STEPHENS; then James and Florence (ALLAM) STEPHENS; then James Clemens ALLAM and Mary EGAN. Then Aaron ALLAM and Rachel CLEMENS. Then Henry and Sarah (STEVER) ALLAM. Henry, alleged father of the Johnson County, William ALLAM, was the son of Johann Jacob AHLEM and Catherine Elizabeth OTT. Jacob was the son of the immigrant Johann Jacob AHLEM and Margaret DRACH. So again, I thank you very much for your kind response!

It is noted that there are several hundred unmarked graves in that cemetery. From Johnson County Cemeteries book (up to 1986) - I checked variations as well. ============== Johnson Co. Hist. Soc. Journals - There is a note that Mary is mentioned on p. 52 of April 1985 - pity that I only have a couple of pages of that one, but since p. 53 starts CSA pensions with surnames "B", sounds promising. This was just a list of people receiving payments, no details. Also another page I don't have - April 1995 - Patricia E. Perry, of Ojai, CA, entered a query that included " William ALLUM b. 1832, m. 1867, d. 1903 Lamar; Mary Ann SAWYER b. 1844, m. 1867, d. 1928 Lamar" Also in the year's obituaries (Jan. 1995), p.43 - 01-06-95 ALLAM, William R. Sr. 75 KS, formerly Lamar, bur. KS; s/Bedford F. and Rose Lena SAWYER ALLAM; Mason; h/Barbara Fern HAYDON ALLAM; son W.R. ALLAM Jr.; dau. Barbara KINCAID; bro. Carl ALLAM. I looked through some other notes, but don't find the names elsewhere. In other postings I have listed some of the general dates of newspapers that existed, but with a death date of 1903, it is difficult unless someone has an obituary that was saved by family. Copies of papers before 1912 are pretty spotty. Since it appears his wife received a CSA widows pension in the 1920's while living in Arkansas, regardless of his service state, he would be in the index book (I don't have a copy at hand). A nearby genealogy section may have this (Little Rock, Dallas, Nashville, LDS). The pension papers would be on microfilm at the Arkansas History Commission.

The Arnolds and Baskins are all relations by marriage that I have included as I tried to fill out the various family connections that I can document. I did not have proof that Annie & B.R. Powell were brother & sister - that is of interest to me. I have been slowly trying to document people that are in group pictures taken around 1900 involving my McDaniel, Ogilvie, and Geisler families, as well as some others that I have been given to try to identify. Geisler sisters married into the Coffee and Laster families, which of course carries a tie to the Baskins. Thus the various family picnic, church group, and wedding photos are full of friends and almost-relations. I am trying to find good quality scans of other known photos to compare. All of this eventually winds up as my volunteer contribution to the Journal and at the Arkansas History Commission / Butler Center. (John C. Middleton Baskin's sister Hester Ann married Chester Ashley Swift, my g-g grandmother's brother. He is said to be in at least one photo that I have.)
I would like to correspond with anyone who is researching the John Richard Doss family. In 1900 they are shown in Grant Township, Johnson County; and in 1910, 1920, 1930 they are in Alix Township, Franklin County, Arkansas. A lot of the family is buried at Houston Cemetery which is west of Altus. The family had children named Fred, J. B., William, Henrietta, Lucy Margie, and Clara Amanda. If you know anything about this family, please contact me....I believe there may be a family connection for me. Joy Russell

In Ancestry World Tree Project it states that she died in Johnson County, AR on 18 Dec 1856. She was buried in Annie's Chapel Cem, Hagarville, Johnson Co, AR. They also state that she was the daughter of John Cudd and Betty Poteet. I couldn't find her in the 1880 Johnson County, AR census. Did find the other 4 children of John and Betty Poteet Cudd in the 1880 Johnson County, AR census. Thank you for any help. WEPALM@lorettotel.net
