Lewis b 1803 married Levi Tolliver Pruitt/Pruett. They had a child named Pheriba Elizabeth Pruitt who married Samuel Nunn. They named children: John, William "Willie", Hellen Martha, and Samuel Nunn. There was also a daughter named, Lucinda Pruitt, born 1834/37 Calhoun county, Alabama. She and husband, John Gaulding Nunn, named their children: Duonella Clementine, Ivision/Iverson, Hixcie, Samuel, Lucinda "Belle", John, and Richard Thomas Nunn. It was told in our family that at least one brother went to California after the war. Hixcey Lewis Pruitt and Levi Pruitt are buried in the Arnhart Cemetery, Van Buren County, AR. Fieldstones mark their graves, and some stones with initials--T.P. and J. P.-- are in the same line with Hixcey and Levi's. I know they came to this area around the years of the Civil War from (probably) Mississippi. On one Census Hixcey listed her parents as being born in Ireland and North Carolina. There was some mention in the family that they were part Native American-Choctaw & Cherokee. I feel that if one child came to the area where the parents were making a new start, others may have come also-hoping yours connect! That's why I listed so many names. Just starting the Lewis family search if there are any "good places or books" that you know of, I would appreciate the help. Thanks

Again, this is not my great-great grandfather, John F. Hill. My gggrandfather, John F. Hill was born in Va in 1824. His parents were also born there. He had at least 5 children. 1 son who was killed in the War Between the States, as a Union soldier. His name was Elick. My gggrandfather, on the other hand, was a Confederate Soldier, who was injured in the War, leaving him with a bad leg. He was living in Jasper Co. MO in 1880. His wife at that time was Labeny Hill, who was born in N.C. in 1826. Her parents were also born there. Maybe that was his only wife, I don't know. However, he had 4 daughters I know of. Narcissus, Irene,( my ggrandmother), Louise, and Melvinia. I can't find his military record anywhere. Seems John F. Hill is a very common name. We live so close to ARk., and I do know there were some connections in Ark., that I thought possibly that is where he enlisted. However, again thanks for your reply. I guess I'll have to keep on searching. Victoria Sills

The real problem researching folks here is that there are 464 unmarked graves. I certainly have relatives there, but they are not in the book. A possible verification is to search the Clarksville papers of the period for mention of a funeral. They are available on microfilm at the Clarksville library or the AR History Commission in Little Rock.

This led me to do just a bit of research to understand the circumstances and time of my family's arrival in AR. Mark Hill (1790-1878) married Rachel Fry (abt 1795-abt 1845) . One child was John F. Hill (Abt 1820-Feb 1882). He had two wives, Hanna Bradshaw, Emeline Cruthers Grey according to a family history filed at the AR History Commission research room. There were two sons by the first wife. This book follows the family of another son, Kimbrel Claude Hill, whose family went to Oklahoma City. The 1880 census shows a John F. Hill age 57 with a wife Mary T., son John R. age 24. His age is not a perfect match, but parents birthplaces match. Sorry I don't have the marriages book.... If this is a connection, I have a few pages of this family history and Mark's service roster. His family is also mentioned in Ella Molloy's book on Johnson Co., as well as Goodspeed. A son Marcus was a noted resident after the War Between the States.
