Our ancestor was also shot and killed by them, but it was May 13, 1864. From what I've been able to find, Clarksville & farms were the subject of many such attacks and killings. Note, this was during the Civil War.

Is there anyone on the list who has access to the original marriage records for Johnson Co. I need a look-up for Elizabeth June Perryman to Weston Bryant in Book N Page 170, February 6, 1868. I have the Johnson Co. Ark. Marriages Book 1850 - 1890. In this book her name is listed as Perryman but i believe this should be PERRYMORE. Thanks for any help and time you can give me. Also would like to hear from anyone that descends from either of these lines. Neosha

I heard that Sarah and John's father was Cherokee and that he married a white woman. I do know that Sarah said that the last image she had of her father was his long black hair as he had a rope around his neck and was dragged from the house never to been seen again. Family lore has it that he was killed by bushwhackers or Jayhawkers. The family says he was hung. I have yet to find any account of it.I wish I knew where it happened Gina

Seems possible that your John R., age 24 may fit the bill. Do you have anything further on him after the 1880 census. My John Hill died somewhere in the l940's. He fathered a child in 1890-1891 out of wedlock. My information shows the mother to be a Cora Freeman. That child being my grandmother, Daisy Hill. Daisy was raised by Ella Pearson Seeman until her death, then by Victoria Johnson Hilderbrand Seeman and of course the husband, John Seeman. Anything you may have regarding John Hill could be very helpful. Thank you in advance for your time. (Cora Freeman also a big mystery)

Here is what I have now, should keep you busy for a few days. [email protected] and Claudia Vernon Medlin Jr 1409 Leanne Ct Raleigh NC 27606 919-851-8538 is searching Levi & Lydia (Scott) Whittle, parents of your Jesse. Levi is listed on the 1834, 1835, 1837, 1838, 1839 tax list of Johnson Co AR 1840 Johnson Co census 1850 Johnson Co census, Horsehead Twp 1860 Johnson Co census, Horsehead Twp, pg 991 Levi has another son William Moore Whittle (he was buried in the cemetery that Jesse was). WM was born 26 Dec 1843, d 15 Feb 1910 His wife was Elizabeth "Bettie" (also buried in that cemetery) Eglentine Hodges. They lived in Coal Hill area of Johnson Co AR. Now about Ira.....I don't know what the connection is, but I'd bet there is one. Ira is being researched by John Shaffer 800 N Hickory Salen MO 65560 and [email protected] Ira served in the same regiment as Jesse, but it looks like he never left Edgefield Co SC. In fact, he's listed as born 1819 Edgefield Co SC, died 10 Dec 1863 (probably in service during the civil war since he died in Lynchburg, Campball Co, VA and is buried in the Old City Cemtery there.) Ira's father was James Whittle Sr, b 1768, d 4 Feb 1844 Edgefield Co SC, son of Joseph. his mother was Lucretia, and his spouse was Mary A Have I confused you enough? Let me know if I can do any further checking. Good luck, Ginger in Kansas City MO
