I have seen some with "daughter of", "married at the home of", etc., in addition to basic names. At the same time they often left out key information. Later they went to a preprinted book form, and with that all the interesting extras disappeared, except the occasional notation of Mrs. or widow/widower in parentheses, which at least helps determine there was a prior marriage. I have found 1869 entries in the old form, and 1881 in the new, but don't have direct access today to say when it changed. Sources: If you live in Arkansas, the following have the books on microfilm: Arkansas History Commission Clarksville Library (Johnson Co., AR) Butler Center, Main Branch of the Little Rock Public Library. The History Commission and Butler Center have copying facilities. I don't remember if the Clarksville library does as well. Otherwise, these rolls are available through the LDS Family Research Centers loan. The original books are still at the Johnson Co. Courthouse, but very hard to copy from, and difficult to use if the office is busy. They are very helpful, but have extremely limited space. Also, remember that the entries are in the order they were presented to the clerk, so do not limit yourself to looking at just the two or three entries around a date. Look for an index, and if there is not one, go at least a year beyond the date you are looking for. I have one example that was recorded well over a year later, just taking information from the preacher's diary.

I have very little to go on. I know she was born June 1832 in Arkansas. I know both her parents were born in Virginia. And, I know that on March 16, 1871, Ellen Robinson married my gr-grandfather, Edward B.F. Real in Johnson County, Arkansas. Ellen was in her 40's at the time of this marriage, so Robinson may have been the surname of her first (?) husband. In the 1900 Benton County Arkansas census, she (Ellen Real) is in the household of my gr-grandfather. Living with them is their son, Licurgus, (born in 1874 - 3 years after the marriage) and his pregnant wife, cora. Their son, Ambrose, would be born in November of that year. I have been searching for information on this woman for years - and have hit one roadblock after another. This is all the concret information I have. Any help would be appreciated. BTW - How would I obtain a copy of the marriage bond for these two from 1871? Would it list her parents? Thanks again for any help you can offer, Laurey [email protected]
