He was married to Mary Elizabeth Hardcastle Looper. She had two sons by Benjamin - James Harrison King (my granddad) and Dock Bradford King. Trouble between Mary Elizabeth and Benjamin caused them to divorce. He was so mad at Mary Elizabeth that he said he would marry a woman so ugly that she wouldn't stray - hence Martha Coose. Her nickname was "Puss". I too have been searching hard for Benjamin. Dock Bradford King moved his family to Shawnee, OKLA.. Mary Elizabeth married her third husband Otho Rhodes where they resided in Clarksville, ARK. I have a very distant relative who notified me several weeks ago that someone told him that Benjamin King died at Fort Smith, ARK. I have not had the time to go searching and see if I can find out anything to the contrary. If you have any more information and would like to talk let me know. Pam Hayes

I would think your William may be too old to be the right age for a son of Milton Sexton's oldest son, William R. Sexton. William R. Sexton was born in Illinois in 1866. We think he may have been widowed when his children were fairly young. We have a seven year old grandson living with Milton and Rachel in Kansas in 1900 named Clarence Sexton. We believe he was William R. Sexton's son. William R. may have ended up in Denver, CO. on a later census. The census data fits but one never knows with out more concrete evidence. We do know several of Milton's children and grandchildren lived in the area of south-western Missouri and north western Arkansas. We also have not been able to find any trace of Milton's younger brother, Jefferson H. Sexton. We may have found him in St. Louis in the 1880s but can't be sure. I don't know if this gives you any clues or adds to the confusion! Let me know if any of this ties in! Good luck... Kathy
Ladies and Gentlemen: In one of my searches for information I came across your e-mail address. My mother's family was from the northwest corner of Arkansas generally. The Family name of my Grandmother was Todd. Her third husband's (?) last name and my mothers maiden name was Lowman. My grandmother's name before she married was Magnolia (Nolia) Elizabeth Todd. She died around 1964 in Farmington, Arkasas and is burried in the Farmington cemetary under the name of Magnolia Elizabeth Lowman. I am trying to trace her family background, both the Todd and Lowman sides especially, and haven't had much success. Any suggestions? I would appreciate any suggestions which you might offer. I am a member of Ancestry.com. You can contact me at the e-mail address listed above. I really do not have much more. That's my problem. I did not know that he was married twice, had children etc. All I know is that my gr grandmother was a Martha King who married John Lemons and was in the 1880 census in Newton Co. AR I knew my grandfather John W. Lemmons (he added the extra m) and he said he was orphaned at 10. (abt 1885), and what his parents' names were. In Newton Co. in the 1880's were John and Mary King with sons James, 19, Ben, 17, Henry, 15 and daughter Sarah 11. I found Ben (37) in the 1900 census in Pope Co. (my grandfather was m in Pope in 1895) with wife Martha E. and nephew Tom Lemons. I followed them in the census. I know that they are mine as Tom Lemons got a SS card when he was 66 and I got the application. Since they were in Johnson Co. in 1920, and the Lemons' are buried in Lamar cem. I'm thinking they may be too. Do you know when and where Martha E. Coose King died and is buried? Thanks

King who married 1) Mary E. Hardcastle Looper and 2) Martha "Puss" Coose. Benjamin F. King was divorced from Mary E. King in Johnson Co. in 1898. There was little contact between Ben King and his sons after the divorce. I would be very interested in learning more about Ben King and his family.

Glover. John Glover and his son-in-law (both bur. Reynolds) were killed by night riders after the end of the Civil War. The family lived along Big Piney in an area that was sometimes considered Johnson Co. and at others Pope Co. His estate administration was filed in Johnson Co. but contemporary newspaper reports of his death give the location of his home in Pope Co. John Glover left a widow, Elizabeth Adeline, nee Hickey, and several children. His family left this area and moved to Texas after the settlement of his estate.
